Possible MINI

I am looking at a 2003 S with just under 40K miles for $19998 at Carmax.

It is the dark metallic gray, s light rims, heated leather seats, DSC, front fogs, controls on the steering wheel, dual sunroof, auto a/c.

The best part is 14000 for my Sport Trac and the KBB trade is about 12400.

Anthing in particular to look for.

I am still considering maybe looking for a mini in the paper, its just very easy to do the transaction all in one place.

Thanks

That price seems a little high for an '03. KBB says it should be around 18,860. I think that 18,000 would be fair. With an '03, 40,000 is the time where you may start having to dump some money into it.
Still, if you take it to a mechanic (will CARMAX let you do that?) and it gets a sound bill of health and you really like it....go for it.

Although, if you're financing, you could extend the legnth of the payment term and make the same monthly payments for a new one instead.

Good Luck!

that seems a bit high to me too, you could get a brand new one made just for you for $3,000 more, to me thats a better idea

You might go over to MINIusa and try to build an MCS with the specs he listed for only $3000 more. I don’t believe it can be done.

True, the question is, does he really want all those options? And, I believe you can no longer spec an R53 exactly how you want it unless it's a convertible.
On the other hand, Carmax will buy your Sport Track for that price even if you don't buy the MINI from them.

Seems a bit high IMO, but I guess if that's one of the few options out there...

I would say its just a little high, but if its a good car and in great condition someone will probably pay that price.

I bought a 2003 with 30k miles on it for $18,500 and it has every option and upgrade except the navigation system. And I must say the HK stereo is pretty amazing for a stock radio system. I also could not live without the heated seats now. Even has park distance which seems to go off for shadows.

Keep in mind if the tires are original you will be spending $500+ to replace those very soon.

Oh, another thing. If you can find out the in service date then do. It may still have some warranty on it. I was lucky and my car had a date of 09/03 so still had a year on the warranty when I bought it.

I'd pay that amount for an 04' not an 03'. I bought a 04' w/ 20k miles for 19,400.

IMHO prices should reflect the options that are on a car. Specifically the sport package and the premium package will raise the value an appreciable amount. If you could find an MCS with NO options I am sure it would be much much cheaper.

I sold my '00 Volvo S70 at CARMAX for 4k. The dealership was only going to give me 2k. Then I took the sales draft to my MA at MINI and put it toward the down payment.
Why not try the same thing? Sell your car to CARMAX for a really good price, thne use that money for a newer MINI at a dealership.
