R50/53 Win a MINI!
Hey, check this out: I just stopped off at my bank (SunTrust) and saw MINIs plastered all over the walls! They are raffling off what appears to be a loaded MCS. The price of the "ticket" is a home equity loan. Here's a link:

Actually, I think it's some law (or something) that prohibits contests from necessitating a contestant to buy something in order to have a chance at winning. This is the case in this lil contest, as in the official rules it says:
"To enter without making a purchase, hand print your name, com-plete
address, and daytime phone number on a 3"x5" card and mail
your entry to "SunTrust Home Equity MINI Sweepstakes," 1450
West Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309. All mailed entries must
be postmarked by 5/31/03 and received by 6/6/03 in order to be
eligible. Limit one entry per envelope, per person, per household."

And like Publishers Clearing House...they separate the entrants into two stacks prior to picking a winner.
One stack is for the 3x5 Index Cards - the other for those whom have opened an account with SunTrust.

Well whereas Reg DD 230.2(f) spells out provisions for bonuses when opening a deposit account there are no federal guidelines for giving a bonus (in this case, a raffle ticket) as a benefit of applying for a loan. This would be a matter left to state law and/or potentially state UCCC lending law. Yes, this is what I do for a living, I live in bank reg books. Arg.

well according to them, they do not do that.. everyone has equal chance of winning.. now whether this is actually true or not is beyond me. It'd be interesting to do a meta-analysis of all contests of this type and seeing which method the winners were entered.
