R50/53 First service...
First service...
Yesterday I was confined to MINI of Charleston's service department waiting room, for the better part of 3 hours. Hobbes was in for his 34,000 mile service (it was MY first service, not his, lol). This was the last service covered under warranty. I still have bumper to bumper if anything breaks. However, after this checkup I'm thinking about extending the maintenance warranty as well.
They did the BMW inspection 1, replaced the wipers, changed the oil and filter, all the usual stuff. But here's the rest...
1.They did a software upgrade to fix the stumble Hobbes had when he was at idle.
2. There's been a tingy sound coming from the exhaust, and the other day it even backfired very quietly. They checked all that out, determined it was the tensioner, and ordered the parts.
3. My brakes had been a little squeeky lately. Turns out the roters were glazed. Is there a way to keep that from happening????
4. The power steering fan was jammed!!! How does THAT happen!!????

5. There was a small coolant leak, so they ordered a new reservior hose.
Yikes. I didn't expect all that. I'm soooooooooooo glad it was all under warranty. Just thinking about how much that would have cost makes me ill. Is this regular wear for 34k miles? Anyone else want to share other unexpected "inspection" stories?
