R50/53 Fuel for the Mini
The standard MC may well do alright on regular unleaded, but the owner's manual specifys premium. Do youslef and your car a favor and feed it right. You'll both have a smile on you face!
If you're running around in a MC, just for regular driving from point A to point B, than regular fuel(87 octane) would be all right, *IMO*. Not sure if the MC comes with the anti knock sensor or not. I know the MCS does. But with the MCS, you definitely want to be using AT LEAST 91 octane.
If you have a MC, I'd spend the extra little it and put in at least the 89 octane. What's a couple bucks more, right? That way it's not the lowest grade. If you want your MINI to be happy and get a little more performance out of her, than go with 91 octane or higher.
Just my couple of pennies worth.
Cheers,

>>My sales person recommended Premium unleaded, but the manual doesn't seem to say anything about Premium fuel. Do you use Premium or Regular unloaded for your MC?

Fuel Specifications
The engine uses lead-free gasoline only.
Required fuel:
Premium Unleaded Gasoline
min. 91 AKI (AntiKnock Index)
It seems that this question comes up about once a week when the last thread on the subject gets to be about 3 pages old.
Yes, your MC will run on 87 octane.
No, it probably won't completly die on you but performance will be reduced.
Also, why would you want to run low octane fuel in a high compression engine?

I think it's actually more important to run 91 Octane in the MC engine vs the MCS engine
since it's a higher compresson engine than the MCS engine.
Use what you want, but you won't actuallys ave any money using lower octane since it ussally
results in a 10% to 15% reduced mileage, and you can do tha math yourself.
