Quote: Chows, I thought the MCS was rated at ~ 6.8 (at least the 2006 model) or are you talking reality vs. what they tell you?
I've read numbers ranging from 6.8 - 7.3 from MINI to 7.7 from Edmunds ... here http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...4/pageNumber=6
There is no difference in gearing or HP between 05 and 06.

JCW numbers freely available at R&T ... about 6.3./6.4

The problem with these engines is the lack of quality control. Several months ago one of FBT's team was posting on MINI2 about dyno numbers of OEM MCS claiming to have dyno'ed many cars. The variation on bhp was pretty big from something like 150 or so to 170 bhp. Now take a look at a lot of the dyno posts and people with the same "mods" have different dyno numbers. All things being equal, its part of the luck of the draw in getting an engine. I would not believe for one second that each and every 05/06 MCS delivered to you was 168 BHP. I would bet under that.

The fact is that with lower end cars, the more quality control built-in, the more the price would be and that is at odds with marketing. If you look at the other end of the Spectrum, say a MB AMG engine, you can probably take it to the bank if it says 400 bhp its IS 400 bhp or better.

A classic example of variation ... take a look at the 2005 comparison test in R&T for the best sports car. Their 997S was pulling 3.9 0 - 60 mph which was unbelievable. Turns out, the other car mags got the car new, not broken in. Flat-6s are know to need at least 2K miles and better 4K miles on them. I think their car was 5K miles and the difference was big time.

I broke 8 seconds today with my friend with dsc off. low rpm launch worked alot better than having dsc shut me down(worth about half or more of a second) I have videos It just requires me to buy quicktime.. If you pm me your email I can send them too you. I would be interested to see what you can run. (it was also 60 degrees..)

edit: after reviewing the videos again its hard for me to tell the exact numbers. the videos are aproximatly 9 min long.. but thats including slowing down and starting off. I will try it tomorrow with an actual stopwatch
