R50/53 Mini Safety
I am thinking of buying a Mini but am concerned about its safety rating. Does anyone have any information about the Mini's safety? Since it hasn't yet undergone crash tests I am wondering what other information is available out there?
Check out the MINIUSA web site. It has all kinds of good stuff about the car's construction. Also, don't be fooled by the size. While the car's length is short, it is at least as wide and as high as a 3 series BMW. It has six airbags, including head protection and lots of other safety features.
>>The new MINI is rated 4 Star (out of 5) by Euro NCAP. It has been tested in the U.S., however the results have not been released yet.
I can't wait till those results come out because I think many many people are going to be surprised. I have gotten so tired of hearing people say, "I got my SUV because it is so big I am safer in it." As long as your SUV hits a car a good bit smaller you are safer, the people in the other car aren't so lucky, but if two SUV's of about the same size hit the result is pretty nasty.
That obsolete body on frame construction and high center of gravity, that most although not all SUV's share, tend to be very detrimental to crash worthiness.
