One of the best options IMO. Fresh air, lots of light, and stars at night... how can you not like it? Plus I think the car looks better from the outside with all the glass up there. Also, everyone comments on the size of it when they get in the car

It is a great option, I have the deflector from MINI it cuts out almost all noise. i keep it partially open in the rain.

I enjoy the sonic shift when traveling at 80 mph with the sunroof open and then shut it. :-D Only when it's too cold though.

I love the light and breeze from the sunroof. My week of motoring with it has been all smiles!

Me too! I love a little fresh air, and just a little woosh. Makes me feel like I'm really "motoring".

sunroof

I love the sunroof on the Cooper and on any car actually.
Always had the windows down and the sunroof open when i had my tin top.

My gripe about it was how big it looks on the outside compaired to how small the actual opening is on the inside.

some other things on my wish list were the back glass could be tilted when the front glass was tilted.
and why they never got a solid sunshade in there was a mystery to me.

Having the cabrio now i enjoy the fact the top can me slid back like a sunroof or fully opened.

I still think its not worth $850 maybe if they lowered the price i could see it. My next mini wont have one.

Did you notice if the deflector made the sunroof noisier in the vent position? I've got the MINI deflector with the adjustable bit in the middle; it makes the sunroof much more usable at highway speeds, but I think it makes the vent position louder.

Mine is open everyday, and windows too if it is not raining, the temps are over 55, or if I am on the hiway hauling butt.

Having had a few vehicle with a sunroof, and never using them, I opted not to get one on the Mini. It wasn't a matter of $, if it were free I still wouldn't have chosen a sunroof. Local weather wasn't a factor. Fact is the sunroof ads weight (as noted earlier, in a bad location) and can be the cause of additional maintenance $.

No doubt, if you use it, it can be a great option but, if you don't use it, it's a negative.

Like many other options it's all about personal preferances.

After owning an '87 Audi 5000CS Quattro and an '81 Mercedes 300D, both with sunroofs, I decided that my next vehicle would also have a sunroof too. I just loved the airy feel when it was open. Seems to make the interior more spacious if sunlight can come through it too.

Took me forever to find a used IB MCS with a sunroof! I think it's well worth it...but then again, I use the sunroof whenever I can.

I totally see why some people are against it. Nothing wrong w/ that, just a personal preference. No sense in having something you don't want, right?

Now I hope the sunroof doesn't cause me any problems...it rains a lot in this part of Alaska!

*Especially* in this gorgeous fall weather! Even if the sunroof itself isn't open, I've got the screen open so I can see the sky...

I can't imagine owning a car without one...

I know I'm in the vast minority, but I'm not huge sunroof fan. Way too hot in the summer, so I put a reflector up there and now I have less head room / more weight and no realy useible sunroof. Although In the spring for those few cool clear days I do like it. If I had it to do again I not get one though.

My wifes car has a sunroof.. In 3 years of ownership... I used it once..
I ordered the mini without one.. no regrets.. Less weight = more performance. Also less money spent and less things to go wrong... JMHO

I have had sunroofs in all my cars and used them occasionally. I have come across (2) 2006 MCS that have the same packages (#1, 2, 3) and milage but the one doesn't have a sunroof and is $3K less ($22K vs. $25K). For $3K, I can live without the sunroof.

Some pretty constructive comments in here. Helps a lot that I punched "sunroof" in "Search" to look up the topic, since i am considering the option on the R56 MCS. Now speaking from personal experience, not owning a Mini, I think it can go either way; as it is on my current car I hardly use it unless I think to, and on the flip side it was inoperable for almost a year because the visor was stuck, later come to find out the motor was also bad. However it's nice to park my car inside the garage at work and put it in the tilt position to ventilate the interior while I'm away so the car is nice and airy and not all humid when I get back, but you can do the same thing w/ the drive and passenger side windows. It's also nice to stroll up to Malibu on PCH on the 4th of July and pop that sucker open to watch the fireworks (x100 for Mini owners w/ the dual pane sunroof, can't imagine!!!), then too you can always get out of the car. Being that by the time I buy my MCS I'll be a newly college grad, I have to watch the bank somewhat... we'll see, but it gets harder and harder to imagine life w/ out it the more I think about it.

I like the sunroof but hardly ever open it. Plus, it gets bloody hot while parked in full sun during summer. Next time, sunless!!

All my cars have had a SR and I love the feature but none have been as noisy as the Mini's. I haven't used it much but enjoy the light and I'm glad I have it. I think I'll start using it more!!

Just to further bolster the argument made by those that beleive having an s/r only adds weight and hinders perfroamance, and also to maintain an objective position: all real sports cars have solid roofs.
