R50/53 HELP - Offer on table - do I take it???
It sounds like you are trying to get a reasonable deal, but that money isn't the real issue. So, if you feel the MCC is the better overall package at this time, then do it! If you determine after a while that you just NEED to get the S to be happy, then you can always sell/trade and buy it later!
I tend to believe that everyone should get at least two MINIs anyhow - you learn what you do and don't like the most on the first one and then you order just the right things on the second one!

One other thought - you might find better service / support at the dealership if the car is bought brand new from them; some dealerships for example only give loaners to folks that originally bought from them ...
Or the third ... or fourth ...

Since you said the dealer will put in the heated seat on the MCSC, I would get it. Before you stated that, I was hesitant to pick. You gotta have heated seat in a convertible for those chilly-day drives with the top down
Oh wow - what a dilemma. But I have carefully read all that you have written. And my answer is none of the above. My answer is to order an '07 through the dealer - build a MCSC with what you want and don't want in it. What colors? Stripes or no stripes? What packages? Yes, it will be more $$$, but you will be happiest this way in the long run. Build it for arrival when the warm spring months are coming! Obsessively check the owner's lounge everyday. Find out what date your MINI is born on. Find out what ship your MINI is on and track the ship with latitudes and longitudes. Oh, wait - that's what I did.
Seriously though. First choice. Build your own. Second choice, the new MCC. And the very last choice for you is the used MCSC. Reason being is because you will cringe each time you see the seats and the chrono pack. I'm sure it also has some scratches here and there. Scrathes are best when you know how they got there. :D

I am selling my 2006 MINI S - same three packages you are looking for-- mine is green with white top/mirrors... I am in CT if you are interested... asking $23.9.... paid $25.5... Also, My 2 kids LOVED the mini!!!! Plenty of room for them.....
S envy doesn't mean you won't enjoy the Cooper. Sounds to me like you built the car you wanted, then got distracted by another car. But really, this is a "win - win" conflict, the easiest to resolve. Just so you know, it is human nature to seek confirming information after making such a choice. So 1 month from now you'll be full of reasons to justify your choice.
Good luck!
Good luck!
ummmmmm, he's looking for a convertible......from the sounds of it, he also really wants CR...
This is what I would do:
Build the MCSC how YOU want it spec'd. Now look at the price. Now look at take a few $k off for depreciation and see what $ you end up at. Now put a $ amount on the fact the used car has or doesn't have items you want/don't want. Sort of reverse justification...
IMHO, it sounds like you really want an S spec'd like you have the MCC.

I left town yesterday without going back to look at the S. That car was definitely a sacrifice to get an S. And yes, you guys are correct. The MCC has everything I want on it (except xenons) and the S distracted me. I am still torn on the MCC vs MCSC (which I think a lot of folks were then they bought). But I'm heading over to the dealership after lunch (have to get some work done this am). I will drive the car and if I like it, I'm getting it. It's a trade off of mileage and $$ for power. And of course time - I have no patience for building and waiting!! I wish I did!
Ok, but only buy it if you LOVE it. Otherwise, dig deep within yourself and find the patience to build one how you want it - you could do it! Don't settle. You will always wish that you hadn't.
Yeah, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Xenons...and the added power of the S. Get what you WANT.
Also, has the MCC been test drove a lot? How many miles are on it? There's nothing like getting your car with like less than 10 miles on it.

I asked about miles over the phone and was told it was their showroom car and not a test driver. He said the miles should be in the teens, at most 25. So we'll see. Only other problem with building is that I will keep adding crap until it gets way too expensive :-)
One other note on building. If I build a CR one like I want, it comes out to $29,250. I would be tempted to order the Cool Blue which would add another 400. But we'll stick with the CR for this test. The one I am looking at on the lot is $25,800 (only missing the xenons). I'm getting 500 off MSRP and they are throwing in the iPod connector (approx 300). So that makes a difference of about $4250. I'm not sure I can justify ordering for that. Yes I'll have zenons and more power, but for 4250 I can pay for my insurance for the next several years as well as my gas. I have xenons now, but will be OK without. And I'll get better mileage. So.... Seems like the way to go. As long as I don't kick myself later for not going for the power :-) But a lot of folks say that for around town driving (which is what this will be for) that the MCC is as much fun as the S. So.... Wish me luck and low mileage!
WannaMini... happy to see you posting again. Do you still have your MINI? The last I read from you, you were debating letting it go. I also have finally purchased since your last posting. I don't think anyone will forget your epic following of your MINI from conception to delivery.
[hijack]
Hi freez! I DO still have the MINI! Congrats on your purchase! WOOHOO!! But yeah, my son rides in his car seat in the back, all safe and sound.
Yeah, I think I set a record for the greatest # of posts while waiting for delivery. But I wouldn't change that for the world. When he finally got here, that made it SOOO special. I see you have the cold package. Man, I wish I had that this morning!!!
[/hijack]
kflanary, you know what? I think your reasons for getting the car you are getting are great ones.
AND, you will be in a MINI. I'm just glad you're not going with the car off the Porsche lot. They wouldn't care at all about MINIs.

Sorry, but I would NOT pay 27K for a used MINI S, I also would NOT pay 26K for a new standard MINI, I paid 24K for my latest 2006 MCS and only paid 22K for my first one. Call around and buy one from stock, YES dealers do have some stock, fly-in and bring it home or ship it to your door. You can't go wrong buying a base MCS and limit your add-ons. It's a great package as they come in the base model MCS. It helps a lot in resale if you keep the price down from the beginning. Packages don't help it much in the resale. I'd pass on both those deals.
Check out this inventory and they are saying FREE shipping, http://www.miniofthehamptons.com/New-Inventory.aspx, I have no connection to them either, I just don't think that much of the convertibles and the packages most folks can't seem to live without that drive up the price.

I didn't, I don't think they are worth the money, IMO. You pay more money and they take away half your car. It doesn't sound like the tops are very durable either. But my sister won't buy anything but a convertible. Plus I don't think they are safe. But I ride a motorcycle too , so what do I know?
