Vindicated

I have been somewhat frustrated recently. I've got an '03 CR/W MCS and my brother has an '05 Black MCS with the new gear ratios. Even with my intake, exhaust and 15% pully, his car still feels faster than mine. It's delivers more power in the lower end with the shorter gears that the power delivery seems almost effortless.
Fortunately, we got to do a friendly street race today (only up to about 60 in a 55 mph zone) and I managed to pull away from him pretty well. I felt plenty vindicated in my little 'ol MCS.
It actually seemed that in this situation (from a rolling start about 20-25 mph), that my taller 1st gear was an advantage as I was able to get a bit more power out of it before shifting. I really have no racing experience, though. Any thoughts?
I was really wanting an '05 transmission in my '03, but now I'm not so sure, even though the '05 is considerably easier to drive around town.

LEGAL
Posts relating to street racing, excessive speeding, or violations of other laws are prohibited. If you want to race, take it to a legal venue.
Conform then you can get some advice about Dragging on the track or road racing at the track with a proper sanctioning body.

I4BTL if a mod finds this before you fix it.

I4BTL?
Not quite sure I understand, but we didn't do any dragging or anything.
Just a quick 20-60mph run in a 50-55mph zone. Nothing illegal…I don't think. Do I need to delete the post?

You probably need to edit the original post to reflect that no speed limits were actually harmed in the aforementioned test. There are folks here that think the speed limit deserves more reverence than all 10 Commandmants and the Prime Directive COMBINED

"Easier to drive around town." Exactly. The new gear ratios are for little girly men (and girly girls) who are scared to rev above 5k. The cogniscenti prefer the closer ratios of the original box. Ok, at least one cogniscento...

Alright well. No speed limits were violated. But mostly I just wanted to talk about the gearing differences between the '02-'04s and the '05-'06s. Has anyone driven both in a race type setting? (track, ATX etc.)

I prefer the revised ratios, but I live in a very mountainous and hilly area. I think that clutches take less abuse with the 05 and newer transmissions. Geography plays a big role in optimizing a car.
