You and I have a lot in common, actually you are ahead of me, first of all, your walls are finished, mine has only half of it done, we have the exact same pictures on the walls, I had 2 Vettes and sold one, you have way more ceiling height than I have and all of your floor has covering I only have 1/4 of it covered and my fridge is black only.
Very nice work, I don't think you have to put up with dirty salt and sand mix messing the whole thing up for 6 months either.

zrwon- how do you like that car dolly (under your vette). i was thinking about
getting something like that cause my G35C has a lot of neg camber dialed in
and dont want to flat spot my tires during the winter while it hibernates.

i do turn the tires every 2 weeks about a quarter of a turn each time.
You won't have to turn the tires anymore, those are great but they make better ones now, that are lower profile so you don't have to lift the car as high to get them under, I bought these about 7 years ago, at the time only Eastwood was selling them and I think it was like $139 per pair, now Costco sells them for about $40 per pairs.
I turn the car sideways and push it in the back of the garage, that way I don't get it wet when I wash my other cars during the winter.

Peel and stick vinyl from Home Depot, $0.79 per square foot.
I only lost one and it was while jacking up a car really high to put on jack stand, one wheel was pulling sideways and lifted the tile, but it's very easy to just stick another one, it has been there I think 7 years now and only one came off, I even park my Jimmy and the wife's Z28 on it and never had any problems, oil leaks, just wipe it off, even if it has been there 6 months, all you need is a paper towel and it cleans an oil spills.

Here is the MINI hogging all the space...
No fancy lifts or coolers but the floor is epoxied, works great with the road grime in the winter.

ThomB, Thameth and 2Miniacs - Thanks for the info on the epoxy, but now zrwon has given me another route to look at, peel and stick. I think I'll give that a try in one bay.

Ken - Thanks, it's still a work in progress

Thameth - You mentioned rubber chips; do they stand proud of the epoxy finish? If so I take it they cut down on the slickness of the epoxy? Also, noticed in your list of upcoming mod's, your thinking about air lines. I recommend you run some hard lines around the perimeter of the garage and to each spot where you might put a work bench. I used PVC schedule 40, for all my hard lines and ran drops down between each bay, by the doors. Just make sure to have water collection/drain system. I use a flex line to connect the compressor to the hardlines, so little chance of vibrations.

2Miniacs - That is one nice floor! The more I look the more I like I had to go back and relook at your original post; didn't notice the gas pump was a fridge! See around here, it's not uncommon to find old pumps in folk's garages. I think I like yours better BTW, is the nozzle functional?

Great Thread folks, don't quit yet....

Smokey4, I would recommend epoxy over the tiles for in and out parking, I have it in a long term parking area but would do the daily used part with the epoxy, especially where I wash the cars, the concrete would get wet between the cracks and once it's wet, nothing sticks to it, I sealed mine first but that area never gets any water on it.

Wow. There are some awesome garages here.

I have been thinking of moving somewhere to get more garage space. I live in a good size four bedroom house and it is just me and my son that live there. Yet I have five cars and would love more cars and more space. For me a bedroom, bathroom and a fridge and microwave are enough. But I need more space for cars.

Am I backwards?

Good idea. But I'll need a good lift to get the cars upstairs.

Well I started with a 1450 sq.ft. bi-level and added 800 sq.ft. but made sure the whole basement would be garage, that gave me room for 4 cars, the old part had a double garage but I removed the back wall and had to move the sewer stack a few feet and ended with room for 2 more cars, so when I moved in it was a 2 car garage and now have room for 8.

They do stand out, you can definitely feel them if you walk on it barefoot. I just recently had it done and just started parking the car inside last week so i don't have much experience with it when its wet. It feels like it should be pretty grippy.

Thanx for the tips on the air lines. I'm hoping to mount the compressor up in the attic (not much room). Just recently learned about needing a water drainage for the compressor. I'm hoping to just make one center drop for the air hose with a retractable hose reel that should reach everywhere in my little garage hehe. Would i still need the hard lines?

zrwon - Thanks, I was wondering about the durability of the peel & stick for everyday comings and goings. I think I'll be going the epoxy route, but since it's jumped into the "Freaking Cold" part of the year, I've got 5 months to think it over.

Electric Shock - Nope you're not backwards, you're thinking straight! When we build next, the first thing that gets built will be the shop! Then the house

Thameth - I've seen the Rustoleum kits at Home Depot, is this what you had done or did you use the HD contractor to do the install and he use something else??

Re: your compressor, I'd think you could still put it in the attic as far as the drainage thing goes. There are all kinds of fittings to replace the drain pitcock on the tank. You could work the fittings sizes up to the PVC and run a length of PVC through the floor for the drain as well as the air supply line. I think your issue with putting it in the attic will be vibrations. Even the small ones (5 HP/60 gal) can shake lot and without enough damping will transmitt that vibration into the 2x4/6/8/? in the ceiling.

I'd think it could be done, they mount AC and Heating units up there all day long, although I think they might be better balanced then a compressor. Let me know how it goes.

Here's what I used as a water collection/drain set-up at my line ends:

and my homemade filter mount:

I have a 3 car garage. I sold my 51 Ford and my 60 KG cabrio to make room for the MINI. It shares the garage with my wife's Expedition and my craps table. My better half's commuter car got the short end of the stick and sits out in the elements.

Sadly, I only have a 1 car garage in my Condo, but own 2 cars. Since my MINI is a daily driver, it gets to be an "outside only" MINI.

Below was taken just when I got home from the dealership. You can see my spoiled car in the garage.

Mine lives outside with some others. But after watching a special on A&E about Dream Garages I got to make my smaller version with my office in the back. Here are a few pics. I did plumb it for air, lot of electrical outlets, stereo, LCD tv, full insulation, finished smooth walls and concrete stain with sealer. I can only get three cars inside, but I'm not whinning. Sadley its slowing getting some of my kids junk in there and have to build a storage shed in the back for all the stuff, which should go to the donation center. Anyways a small battle for premium space, its all good.

Put your compressor outside in a Rubbermaid storage shed. Who wants to listen to that thing pound away?! Drill through the wall and run some pipe around where you need it. I have a 60 gallon out there and it stays clean and dry, and the noise is more than bearable. Best of all it has good access to check the oil, drain the tank, and air dryer. Putting up in the attic sounds good but it wont be worth it in the end.

Thing is that i live in a town house so i don't have any outside to put it....

The only other place i can put it is in the garage under the work bench if it doesn't go in the attic. Luckily i'm not going very big. I just want a compressor for small things here and there and mainly for tires since i autox.

Thameth - Then I'd just get one of those small pancake models. Very small footprint (18") and kind-of light. Just keep it under the toolbench.

Android993 - Nice selection of rides there! What year is the tub?

1956, just finishing the resto. Nice set of Rudge wheels to go with it. Got a '59 A Coupe in storage waiting to come home some day.

Thats the plan (going pancake), and if i can't fit it in the attic then it will go down under the workbench......
