R50/53 JD Power 2006 Vehicle Dependability Study
From the JD Powers report:
As previosly noted, the survey conducted was of model year 2003 vehicles.
MINI and Kia are the most improved brands in the study, although both continue to rank below the industry average. MINI, which was first included in the VDS in 2005, earns a 103 PP100 (27 percent) year-over-year improvement

Well, considering that my 05 S may have to have its power steering rack replaced at 13,700 miles, I'm not surprised.
I've also heard that the 07s will have all electric power steering. Maybe too many warranty replacements of the old system, and BMW got fed up??? JB

I don't know about you...
but 230 defects over 100 cars that are three years old is 0.83 defects per car per year. Not really a big deal... I wonder how many of the defects were rattling rear hatches?

Well, in my opinion, that report says NOTHING!!
We have a lot of similar tests and reports over here in germany, and e.g. there a report every year by "ADAC" telling how many cars had problems that made them stop working, and I think the Mini is one of the top cars in the "small cars" range...and the Porsche, which is just a bit ahead in that report here, is always the best one over here...so, maybe this is really, becaue some people report a lot of problems, and some people just drive away, and don't mention any small problem to the dealer...

It's not saying nothing, but
it sure isn't an absolute study on the subject. We called things like this "guides for the eye" to give you an idea about how things compare and are changing over time, roughly....
