Sounds like you configured a $20K mini with $30K of carbon fiber. All that carbon fiber is not going to look that good. If you want a good looking luxury stock mini then you'll end up around $38K and will be thrilled with what you get.

you can do even better by adding a roof rack and roof box... adds another $550 and, with all the JCW and aero kit stuff, makes the car look extra stupid in the picture...

Go onto miniusa.com and select every possible option and accessory. You will be surprised at the result.

Hey guys,

I didn't mean to open a can of worms with this post, but I completely forgot to mention that YES I am talking about CANADIAN DOLLARS.

MINI COOPER S ~ $36,000
PREMIUM PKG ~ $1800
SPORTS PKG ~ $1800
JWC PKG ~ $6000
FRT/PDI ~ $1500

That works out to just over $47K CANADIAN dollars without any additional goodies. Factor in the additional taxes, levies, etc and you're already past $50K CANADIAN (that works out $45K US dollars).

Ok, that helps. Just to clarify though, while in a straight currency exchange it may be near $45k USD on the U.S. market it would sell for somewhere in the mid $30k range.

All I can think of while reading this thread is :

"A fool and his money are soon parted"

If I ever encounter someone who will admit that they spent $50k US (at the dealer) on the initial purchase of a MINI, I will proudly pull a Nelson from the Simpsons:

yikes! on the canadia site I built a car with NO accessories, just all packages and JCW and came in to $48k.

can you order one in the US and drag it across the border? probably too much hassle huh?

Do you think it would be worth bringing a US car into Canada? $35K USD x 1.20 (high estimate) x 1.05 (I assume you'd have to pay US tax) = ~$44K CAD plus taxes (GST and PST). Based on this I figure there 'might' be a savings of $3-4K Canadian if you manage to bring it in from the US, but I just don't think that's enough of a difference to be worth it. Again, my calculations above may or may not be correct and i'm assuming that you don't get back the taxes you've already paid in the US.

If you want to buy a $50K MINI, its your money, go ahead. Dont expect to get anywhere near that amount of it in 3 - 4 years down the road.

As to Porsches, Your off base here with misinformation. At the moment, you can get great deals on a Boxster in inventory because they are changing engines ... however, that aside ...

Have you EVER seen the Order Guide for a Porsche? The "Preliminary MY07 Cayman Guide" is 64 pages long

There are MORE possible options, combinations, colors (interior and exterior) than you can imagine. On top of that, Porsche will deliver the car to you with ANYTHING you want.

You want a PINK Porsche with yellow polka dots and an alligator hide interior ... just send them the color swatch and sample alligator hide ... I'm not kidding.

It is VERY easy to bring a Boxster S or Cayman S into $100K range (especially when you add the Ceramic Brakes) and exotic interiors. It makes the MINI choices look puny.

This same thing makes comments like a $50K car Porsche territory is totally off base. I would bet most ppl who buy them easily add $10 - 15K in options.

As to Exige, your not touching one for less than mid-50s .... Elise, on the other hand, you can get a great deal on 05s, brand new, since dealers cant get rid of them!

This is true about Porsches, the order guide is a book! And i think Mini and Porsche are very similar in the ubelievable expensive options.

All the wheels you can order on a Mini cost over 2K, which is so overpriced its not even funny. You can buy a few pairs of nice aftermarket wheels for that price. Unless they are super light and super strong racing wheels that are the most beautiful things in the world would they be worth as much as they are from Mini...maybe people dont realize that. Optioning Porsche wheels is a better option..
I think Mini dealers gouge you big time. I didnt get any options on my car except the chrome grill. I got a JCW also and it was 30K. That is a lot of this segment!! The Mini is the most expensive car in this segment. I dont think the Boxster is even the same segment, its not really comparable but they are easily 65K
Aslo, i think my next car is going to the the 987 with the bigger engine, I am looking forward to the good trade-in on the Mini, but i will miss it.
Maybe its bad to think about trade in on a 3 month old car!!!

Another way of thinking about it?

Well, if you have the 50K to spend, do it.
Otherwise, don't.
when it comes to numbers, things get very simple.

Also, if you feel the need to change the car that much from stock perhaps its not the right car for you??

I am sorry, but you will lose your *** if you buy a $54k MINI. If money isn't as issue, go right ahead. God knows I wouldn't do it.

A dealer posted on Elisetalk today an initial discount of $1K off MSRP on an Exige. You can get them for low 50's depending how configured. There are several dealers with a half dozen Exiges sitting on the lots, not moving. Ditto the Elise.

I would expect to see Exiges going for $3K to $5K discounts by early Fall.

For anyone coming to this with a casual read. It has been clarified by the original poster that this topic was regarding a CANADIAN spec MINI in CANADIAN dollars.

I try to read Elisetalk when I can. I do see Exiges piling up now and you may be correct. I think a lot of ppl bought them only to find out how totally impractical for everyday life they may be ... just a track toy. Besides new 05s still sitting in lots, I've seen 05s on sale used with low miles in the 32 - 35K range now. Thats a great deal for that car.

Flickster or polizei, Was it that black JWC in the showroom with carbon fiber everywhere and every package available?

Go for only what you need and must have. No one really needs every option in the book. Here's where ours came in at. We eliminated a few things we thought we wanted when we found out that some options will disqualify us from SCCA Stock class. Some options our sales agent told us are actually less expensive to add later.
