R50/53 What is the best deal you can get for extended warranty and extended maintenance?
Contact:
Marc Holstberg, MINI SA
(954)763-4777.
I paid $1,395 plus 6.5% Broward county sales tax for my extended maintenance plan back in August '07.
Is it ok to buy the extended maintenance from another state?
The plan is valid in the continental US and Puerto Rico (Not sure about Canadian coverage). Talk to Marc and see what needs to be done about the key as it needs to be put in the key reader to activate the contract.
I called Marc last week. I live in Indiana, and he's of course in FL. He wasn't able to sell me the warranty unless I took the car down there for him to do a key read. I asked if I could mail him the key or if there was some other option. He said he did not think so, but that he'd ask him manager and call me back. I never heard back from him, so I'm assuming I know what the answer is, but I plan on following up with him nonetheless just to be sure or possibly speak to the manager myself. Perhaps I can get a print out of my key read and fax it to them at Lauderdale mini. There has to be a way to give my money to them somehow???
Can you let me know what socal dealers want $1695, cause it better than these below. I would like to see what Universal City, Crevier, Long Beach, South Bay and and Nick Alexander offer. I too am looking for best price on MINI Extended Maintenance/ Warranty.
So heres a list of prices so far:
SF MINI- "around two thousand"
MINI of Monrovia-$1995
Bob Smith MINI- "wants $2000" (Calabassas)

WTF...OMG...they (MINI Monrovia) tried to sell it to me for $1995
wait I still got her card I am gonna cold call and ask for a quote.
My '06 R53 automatic has 34k miles and next month,(March 09) the maintenance agreement expires. The price I've seen here is $1400. My local dealer Bob Smith in Calabassas Ca. wants $2000 to renew it.Does Mini control the price or is it up to the dealer. If I buy it now the dealer will give me a $300 rebate. Is it worth it or should I find some private shops to do whatever it will need for brakes, oil changes etc. Ron
decisions, decisions,decisions......
Mini offers no payment plan except your credit card or cash.

Mini does not offer payment plans, just takes cash or a credit card.....
Very lucky! My mini has 7300 miles & the price I was offered was $1795. That is QUITE a difference. Also, the guy from the dealer said he never heard of NAM, hmmm......
OK I did some pricing in SoCal:
Irvine MINI $2,295
Universal MINI $1,695
South Bay MINI $2,195
Long Beach MINI $2195
Crevier MINI $
Nick Alexander MINI $1595
Monrovia MINI $1,995
Bob Smith MINI $2,000
It looks like the winner is Nick Alexander MINI for only $1595
for the MINI Extended Maintenance Warranty.
I never been to that one but I will now!!

The best deal you can get is to not buy an extended warrantee - it's just a bet against the insurance company, and they have built-in a substantial profit in their rates.
Of course, like any gamble, sometimes you lose...

***CARMAX***
Got my '05 MCS form Carmax. They have different extended warranty packages with different coverings and prices. When I got the car it still had factory warranty remaining, so I got a new clutch/ press. plate and tube replaced under warranty for the "chewbacca" sound in the mornings. I bought the extended warranty pack#2 from Carmax, hadn't used it yet(knock on wood), but quite good for what they offer. You could even bring it to the dealer for repairs and they'll pay directly to them without you having to pay and later getting reimbursed(basically what I was looking for).

I bought mine at 37,500 for 1250 through a company called ADVANTAGE. So far, without any beefs at all they've paid out on an O2 precat sensor, a power steering pump and rack & pinion, an AC two stage motor, a two stage condenser fan, and two headlight levelers. The O2, Condenser and AC fans all went on one ticket so I only paid one $100 deductible, and one deduct on the rack & pinion. Power steering and one on the headlights...the headlights alone, parts and labor are almost the cost of the warranty and if they weren't, the Pump and Pinion definitely was.
I guess there is no set price at all.
I bought mine when I bought the car. It cost $1,500 for the six year maintenence warrenty. I think when I bought it the dealer told me you can get it anytime but the longer you wait the more it will cost.

Throwing a "what if" into this...
I purchase the BMW extended warranty (not Maint) but I have several mods (intake, reduction pulley, exhaust, coil, wires, ECU tune)
I would think BMW would not actually cover all possible repairs due to the heavy mods.
Now if it were a 3rd party plan, would it matter to them what mods you have and what repairs they would or would not honor?
Can you purchase a BMW extended warranty, through the dealer, just prior to the 50,000 cut off mileage?

BMW extended warranty? Depends on your dealership. That's why I went third party since I had a bunch of mods and the car gets driven at the track.
With a 3rd party warranty, the dealership will do any work because they get paid out by the warranty company and the warranty company doesn't know of any mods since they don't get reported by the dealership. The dealership knows about all my mods, so it's up to my dealership to disclose this info to the warranty provider. No dirt on my hands.
My 3rd party warranty covers everything except for the cat basically. When my crank pulley sheared off due to early build defects and destroyed my passenger driveshaft, everything was replaced and I even got the updated crank/harmonic balancer installed as well for $100 (deductible). Parts and labour without the warranty would've cost me just under $2000. Since then, I've had numerous items replaced (radiator, power steering pump, power steering fans, upper engine mount) without question. Also, mine covers o2 sensors and control arm bushings. YMMV.
