Definitely appreciate the feedback, I posted in two threads because I figured I may get differing opinions from a focused mc40 thread and a general r53 thread. I've already torn out the back seats and the sagging headliner. I plan to make a charred cedar wooden tray to replace the seats and a charred cedar veneer to replace the headliner. May do the door cards the same way and replace the jcw carbonfiber dash bit because it has some separation.

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't understand why anyone would buy a limited-edition vehicle then modify it so heavily that it no longer looks like the original.

Here's mine, for instance:

I also dont get it. I have done all the go fast and trick stuff under the hood but I will never change the appearance. I do want someday though thew wide body kit that was made in Australia and RMW sold it here in the states. But there seems to be some dispute I guess over ownership or something I dunno. I stay out of that sort of stuff. But I would like to have it. I thought about getting a rally computer for mine as well just for a talking piece and it would fit the nature of the car. Something like this.

With only a few examples of MC40s on the road, I think this section of the forum logically has less traffic. Once this pandemic ends (who knows?) and the world normalizes, I would love to see an MC40-only rally located someplace centrally in the U.S. Now that would be an interesting gathering. The only real problem would be finding your own after it was parked! Nice dyno numbers, BTW.

Just watched this auction end moments ago --- it certainly fetched a pretty penny!

That may be a record price for a used MC40. It would be interesting to know who bought it and why at that price since it's well above market even with the low mileage.

I like to think I'm into MINIs as much as the next nutjob...but I can't imagine how much money I'd have to have in the bank before I could justify paying that much for that car. Hopefully some day I'll find out I guess.

Or maybe he's waking up today hungover wondering what he did last night...

What is this rubber tray you speak of? My car (TD 88762) has an option 0493 Storage Compartment Package. Would this have included this "tray"?

Looking for original buyer

I am always accused of burying the lead so:

Can someone suggest a way, or even attempt on their own to help me find the original owner of my 2004 MC40?

As I am attempting to resurrect "Monty" VIN MWMRE33474TD88762 a 2004 MC40 and using a build thread to document it, I, like many other MC40 owners who bought their MC40 as a used car or like me resurrecting it from near death, I am trying to find the build number of xxxx/1000.

I do know it was originally purchased on July 5 2004 at the Mini dealer in The Woodlands Texas. I have reached out to them and yes they were as helpful (and interested in the project as well) but they said they had changed their customer and sales computer system and much of the old records were simply not available (like the name of the original owner) and wished me luck on my quest.

I have just 8 short months to get "Monty" ready for MTTS 2021 next July.
In this process I would like to reunite Monty and original owner at the dealership in the Woodlands and get a a few photos to put at the end of the build thread. Hopefully, the original owner could provide the build number and then I can have a reproduction plaque made, and THAT would make the whole journey MUCH more enjoyable as I prepare him for MTTS 2021.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

Jeff

Monty's journey to Zig Zag or Bust

My wife recommend posting on various social media sites and pose the question as to who might have bought a red 2004 MC40 on that day and place. Unfortunately this, and a Land Rover forum constitute my social media universe.

Suggest to join the Houston MINI Motoring Society (HMMS) group on Facebook. Odds are someone on there will recognize the car.

Woodlands obviously knows who the original owner is. While they shouldn’t release that information to you, you may be able to get them to contact the original owner on your behalf and pass along your contact info.

Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendation. I do not do Facebook. I do have a friend that auto X's a lot and they are members of the Houston Motoring Society and spends time on Facebook. I can ask for them to post the question.

Much Like what Norm said in the TV show Cheers. "it's not who you know...... it's who I know..."
Maybe someone else will succeed where I have failed.

I just wanted to share this for the guys who like or want an MC40. I have no interest in them because I can’t keep anything stock https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5239515366751/

I am waiting on parts for Monty, so I started some cosmetic work. Specifically putting on the decals.
The sides were easy as I had to take the old ones off and there was a some fading in the paint to use as a guide.

I can guess that the ones on the bonnet go on the center line of the hood, but do not know how far up from the scoop (or down from the top) to space the two decals.

Can someone help me out with the exact measurements?

Jeff

Centered on the hood, one inch from the top of the scoop, then 1/2" between the two decals. Suggestion: lay masking tape down to define the bottom position of each decal -- makes it easy to align the decals right against the tape.

Thanks. I will get some 1/2 masking tape to make things a little easier.

#911 is still around and slowly coming back to life.

Now that the track car is pretty much complete, I can switch focus to a full restoration of Veronica.

We recently acquired the correct shift **** and floor mats, two things we had accepted as gone forever. The wheels need to be be refinished (that's why she's on the Sparcos) and the number plate needs to be recreated.

We chose to go with the classic Rallye Monte-Carlo decals instead of the MC40 decals and made them a little larger. The door decal is 19" x 24" .

She has stolen the F60's garage spot, and that looks to be a permanent thing.

Spotted this one on YouTube. Posted a few days ago with no info. Looks clean, low miles, and possibly for sale?

I have started the list whit my own cars and I have added the few VIN numbers that have been posted here in the Owners Club.

I am looking for known sequence number cars with VINs and build dates (found on the drivers door jam information plate)

I have tried to extract information from the MC40 web site (www.mc40.com) but since it is an older site very little information can be retrieved.

So with your help, we might be able to put together something that can help out members looking for the identity of their cars, thanks for your help.

Motor on!
