Getting closer

Well, I did take a brief first test drive of both the MC & MCS(c) a few days ago. I wanted to see if I needed the extra power of the SC even though I suspected I would. As it turns out, there was no comparison for me. I laughed out loud when I pulled away from the same stop sign in the MCS that went unnoticed in the MC. The mid-range torque is so addictive compared to the non-SC motor and to my current VTEC Integra. A clear lesson in the difference between torque and HP.

This was just a basic first introduction to the car and we were in rush hour so we couldn't really get too far away. But it was enough to narrow my focus to the MCS. I was also impressed by the mechanical sound of the SC and the tuned exhaust. The popping on overrun is really fun and was unexpected. (I know that's intentional but I wonder how they simulate that?) Unfortunately, my MA doesn't seem particularly knowledgeable or enthusiastic so I'm learning on my own. (He could be selling any brand of car.)

I'm still asking questions and reading this forum to see if I can find anything that may yet be a deal breaker. I'm going to ask my insurance agent about premiums for the MCS. That's the next step....

I'll be back...

The engine and power is one aspect but one shoudl consider the handling dynamics of the Mini. The short wheelbase, stiff suspension is just a marvel in the bends as well. Just thought i'd point that out.

I do favor the German performance/style priorities, but their longterm quality hasn't always been so admirable. My old GTI was so bad, I swore I'd never buy a VW product again. The two Honda products since then have been terrific cars. Not perfect, but really good cars. I've just grown tired of having to stay near the redline to get any power.

If I end up with a Mini and it's anything close to being as reliable as my Integra, I'd be thrilled.

I also favor Japanese for reliability, had several Honda's and Toyota'sn great cars but the style.prestige,a dn performance are nothing compared to a German built car. I do plan on getting a used civic as a second vehicle just to keep the miles from acruing too fast on the MCS. I also had a Jetta VR6 a few years back, and I can safely assume that BMW can engineer a better vehicle (I Hope)
