Maroon Cooper?

Saw a maroon cooper today. Was the first time I have ever seen this color. It had the pre 05 taillights, with the orange in the middle and that was the only thing I could tell a year on.

Was this probably a custom color or just an older color that has been discontinued? And if it was the older color which one.

Didn't get a chance to snap a pic or anything, but it was a pretty basic maroon...

I had a feeling that may be the case. I have seen silk green before, and knew there was a Red that had a very short run too, but never saw one in person.

Thanks.

It's Velvet Red. As Bugs Bunny, the MINI enthusiast said, "What a maroon!" It's ok, Risu - that was before your time.

I still get an honest-to-goodness thrill when I see a Silk Green MINI. A rare site, but thankfully, there are still one or two about.

Not surprisingly, here in Santa Cruz we have several Velvet Red, Silk Green, and Solid Gold MINIs.

Hersey gave away Velvet Red Coopers and said that they were painted to match a Hershey bar.

The first time I seriously thought about buying a MINI, I called the wife to my computer to check out the colors on MINIUSA. We both wanted Silk Green. When I got around to buying my MINI, Silk Green was no longer available.

This thread reminded me of some pics from a car show last year.

MINIClo, did the Velvet red MINI look like this one?

I love both Velvet Red and Silk Green!!! Color was my hardest decision when I ordered in Feb 2005. If VR or SG were still available, I'd probably still be debating color...

Velvet Red, what a gorgeous color. It was only offered in 2002 and 2003 in the Cooper model only. It could be ordered with either a white, black or body color roof.

It was discontinued at the end of MY2003 production (August 2003) and it was replaced by the now defunct Solid Gold Metallic.

Hear, hear!

VR was to red what solar blue is to blue... deeper, understated, and sophisticated.

I seriously considered ordering a VR/W MC CVT back in June 2002 but in the end opted for PW/B instead. Love Pepper White but a times regret not getting Velvet Red. I hope MINI revives this fabulous color one way or another when the all new 2007 MINI rolls out next year.
