Quote: was the $1400 at the Mini/BMW dealer? because I was told this last weekend at Crevier Mini that it is $2500?

Each dealer sets it's own price. I'd ask another dealer.

The extended Maintenance is indeed an official MINI warranty. The extended service contract (regular warranty) would be through a 3rd party and may vary by dealership.

$1400 is for exended service. $2500 is for extended warranty. They are NOT one and the same.

I just took delivery a week ago (super! so happy!), and the Finance person made a hard push on the warranty, the extended maintenance service, and tire and wheel coverage. I am interested in the extended maintenance service, but once and for all, can someone state whether it does indeed include the clutch? If so, it definitely sounds worth it.

Quote: I wouldn't count of that for much of anything if your talking about "service log". Thats nothing more than a journal of sorts that the owner has to fill in .... meaning you better hope the previous owner cared enough to do that. MINI fills in nothing.
When I log into the Owner's Lounge, I can pull up the dealer service history for my car and my wife's car. Presumably, the dealer entered it, because I sure didn't.

Up to this point, the cars have only been to the dealer for their first scheduled maintenance, so I can't say whether repair work gets logged in there, but it looks like service visits do.

Of course, for routine service history, you could always check the documentation that's stored with the owner's manual and see if the previous owner's dealer stamped the service booklet when the routine maintenance was performed.

Do you really expect to need a new clutch in the first 50k miles? Because that's how long the extended maintenance period is.

The extended warranty is longer, but I don't think it covers routine clutch wear.

used to get extended to 4/50. now it gets extended to 6/100 but costs twice as much.

Is the extended warranty through Mini/BMW directly or is it through an outside company?

So there's a 6/100 *service* agreement available now? I knew that you could get a 6/100 warranty, but this it the first I've heard of a 6/100 service agreement.

Extended Service
Yep, MINI is offering a 72 mo / 100,000 mi extended maintenance service agreement. This is distinct and different than the extended warranty, thus my concern about clutch inclusion. The extended maintenance service agreement is offered by MINI, not by a third party, but the dealership sets the price, and I've seen prices as low as $1395 for dealerships in the NYC and SFO Bay areas, while my local dealership is offering it for $1795. I'll try to get my folks to come down, and if they don't, I'll get it from one of the dealerships offering it for $1395.

To the OP, if the car was sold at one time through a MINI dealer as a MINI NEXT or Certified Pre-Owned, then yes it could have a transferable 6yr/100k mile warranty from original in service date.

Quote: My standard 3 Yrs/36K mile free maintenance is almost over and my motoring advisor told me I can purchase an extended warranty to 6 Yrs / 100K miles for $1400. This confirms that there is such warranty out there provided by MINI. She told me this offer is relatively new and I can only purchase it prior to my original warranty expires.
is this Ralph Schomp MINI, and who advised U of this warranty extension?

^^this is the most logical answer

MINI just rolled out MINI NEXT CPO earlier this year. Like BMW, once a car is sold as CPO the warranty goes with the car until it expires. So, if this car was sold as a CPO car earlier this year, the remainder of the warranty would stay with the car if it was sold again. The only way to get this coverage is to buy the car used as a CPO car from the MINI dealer.

MINI does not currently offer any extended warranty that is available for purchase by the public, just the 6yr/100,000 mile maintenance upgrade.

Not completely true. That is one way. The other way is to buy it pre-owned after it was already sold as a certified pre-owned or NEXT. The warranty automatically transfers to the new owner. Its always exciting to buy a used BMW and find out when you take it to the dealer that it still has CPO coverage, especially if the previous owned didn't know (its happened before).

Which dealer told you that cause the MINI sf dealer is estimate is about 2k. Unfortunately my MCS 05 is in the shop for inspection I at 24k miles.. So even if I bought the warranty today it won't cover todays.

Not sure if it worth it or not??

I have a call into my local BMW shop (not the dealer) whos is certified on MC asking for pricing... However they were not able to give me pricing right off the top of their head like they usally do with BMW so I'm guessing they don't see them very often.

Hmm.. this making me think may be the extended warranty is not a bad idea.

The 6yr /100k deal through MINI is a maintaince update ONLY. If the transmission fails, or the motor blows, YOUR still responsible for these mishaps. Although, if the clutch fails or the brakes wear out, or the headlight burns out, MINI with replace it like your original warranty of 3 /36k. Prices are different due to 2 options: [1] is the vehicle still in / availible 3/36k? [2] Is the vehicle still in 4/50k? The vehicle can usually be entered into the update if the vehicle has less than 60,000 miles on the odometer and / or less than 5 yrs old --FROM THE PRODUCTION DATE. There is a charge [$200] if the vehicle is already out of the factory maintance plan, whether it was a 3/36k or 4/50k. The charge is to reenter information back into the computer to have MINI allow the maintance to be covered. The maintance can be started the same day that you buy it. ie: vehicle goes to service for inspection 2, -- originally going to be paid out of customer's pocket for work performed, and service finds you need front brakes. Customer can buy the update for the maintance at that time, usually ends up being slightly cheaper than the work necessary to be performed. In the Chicago area, the going price is 1500 bucks. ---About the cost of an oil service and front and rear brakes, including rotors. Not bad considering brakes last an average of 16k out here.

Recommend you bargain with the dealer. MINI's recommended retail price is $1395 (if you are still within the 36,000 mi/3 year window), which is a couple of hundred dollars above what MINI charges the dealership. Dealers in various parts of the country will sell you the extended maintenance program for $1395 if you mail them your car key for mileage confirmation, so I'd work to get your local dealer down. Some dealers are currently marking up to as high as $2195 for the program - ridiculous! If your dealer won't come down in price, tell them you'll get on the phone and find a dealer who will - and that is a viable alternative if your dealer still won't come down.

Keep in mind that we are discussing MINI's EXTENDED MAINTENANCE SERVICE PROGRAM here, which is NOT an extended warranty plan. Extended warranties are sold by the dealers, but are from 3rd party insurers. The Mini Extended Maintenance Program covers the same stuff covered in the original 36,000 mi/3 year maintenance: oil changes, brakes, wipers, clutch, etc, but not warranty items.
There are strong rumors that MINI will be coming out with their own extended warranty program in the (near? mid?) future.

you can shop around for the ext maintenance program normal retail is $1500 - but some dealerships are even offering 0% interest free finance programs. i would definitely recommend getting this as a front break pad change and rotors will cost you $900 at the dealership. Also the oil changes are $90 a go at the dealership where you need to go in order to get you OBD reprogrammed each time - it pays for itself. When price shopping dealerships you have to be prepared to take your key in to be read so bare that in mind. I would never own one of these cars without the some kind of extended warranty coverage as otherwise it will bury you - EXPECT problems believe me.
