Mechanical Quality 2 / 5
Body & Interior Quality 2 / 5
Feature and Accessory Quality 2 / 5
Performance 5 / 5
Creature Comforts 4 / 5
Style 5 / 5

This data is for the 2002 model.

Does anyone have any JD Power info on the 2003 models, since I would hope the mechanical quality would improve.

See ya,
JS

Interesting. Where did you actually get those numbers?

As I recall my responses to the survey, I'd say that my data was pretty much in agreement with this. I may have given 3's where you report 2's...but basically pretty close.

I feel those numbers are spot on...
I'll add that they should hold true for both 2002/03 models.
Performance & Style=5's...I agree w/ that whole heartedly
Quality in general=2's ...again..spot on.

Peace,
D

I have always loved British cars and still do, but why is it that the British can't seem to build cars with great quality?

Does anyone remember the Sterling debacle in the 90s? How do you mess up an Acura?

How many stories have you heard about Jaguar finally turning the corner on its reliability issues?

I am getting a Mini Cooper S and I expect to love it -- but I fear I will love my warranty more.

My MINI is a Nov 02 built, had it for almost 3 months, drive it like I stole it. The car is absolutly PERFECT. Body quality 2/5???!!! NO WAY! The paint is superb, doors, bumpers and all the panels line up so well. And our headlights/taillights are jewel like. Same goes for the mechanical quality, I love the 6 speed gearbox, engine (that can`t be a Chrysler motor) Eaton supercharger, what a sweet sound WOW!
Suspension/brakes are right on, along with the rest of the drivetrain.

I love this car!

Paul.

If Brits built quality cars, then we wouldn't have any fun fiixing them! Be glad we don't have Lucas electronics... that I know of at least. You wanna see a trouble car, get an E-Type. I love our Jag... but man, when it breaks down (they do every other week, lol), its a problem.

unfortunately it's 100% Mopar....same engine they are using in neons in Europe...under 2500 rpm, my MCS is pathetic....think the JD Power rating is pretty objective....definitely not BMW quality, but great styling and handling...wish there was less plastic in the interior....at 13K miles, starting to get some interior rattles, bummer....

The new Neon, at least for the top of the line one, motors are 220 hp turbo charged 2.0 liter four cylinders.

Abolutely nothing like the motor in the MINI.

Just because it was codesigned by chrysler along with BMW does not mean it is total crap.

Now maybe if it was designed with help from ford....

I have a Nov '02 build date for a '03 model. I have had NO issues on mechanicals or trim/paint/build quality. Maybe I'm lucky? Maybe I just jinxed myself? My MCS has been great, but JD Powers hasn't asked me yet.

It may be spitting into the wind to say this on a MINI enthusiasts' board, but just because you love your car (I love my MINI too!) there's nothing wrong with recognizing its flaws where they exist. Doing so should help BMW improve the MINI, and this is good for us all. For those of you who have had zero issues, great! But remember that the JD Power data is a statistically accurate survey. These "2's" are coming from someplace and JD Power is generally regarded as pretty accurate.

The USDM neon (and PT Cruiser) motor actually displaces 2.4 liters and makes 215hp/ 240lbs. of torque. Nothing like the Mini engine at all...I have no idea what the European spec Neon's are.

I wonder how the new Jags are. You know you've hit rock bottom when a Ford takeover leads to hope of increased reliability and quality.

I also remember an old Road & Track story in the 80s about the old Jag problem stories. "Coast to coast in record time and it only caught fire once" was my favorite.

Yes, Lucas. Thank God for small favors. One of my favorite PS's in R&T was an old Mini with a bumper sticker, "Why do the English drink warm beer?"

You guys know the rest.

What year is your E-type? I almost fell into a series one e-type as a freshman in college. I could have afforded the purchase price (barely) but I probably I knew I couldn't afford to actually keep it on the road.
