Quote: Are you trying to be serious here or does this post belong in the Road Rage thread? https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ight=road+rage

What you are advocating is a quick way to get into serious trouble with someone who may not be so kind ... I would be a bit more careful

Better yet Block them in by going neck and neck with a car doing the limit.

That bit of road rage is a good way to get smacked off the road by someone in their beater pickemup. I hope your more careful than that

Aaahhhh Yea I was kidding.

Nice. I like the "big rig truck sound" one, especially imagining that sound coming from a MINI! Not sure if there's room to mount those horns, though... are there any pics of air horn installs in that other thread?

I think its a matter of driving style. I rarely get cut off. Not because I'm conciously trying to stay in front. I'm more in Motor On's frame of mind. I feel the flow of traffic. I constantly reevaluate what all of the cars around me are facing and how they are likely to respond. That's based on how the individual looks, what type of car they're driving and other intangibles. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to get all cosmic or say I'm this great driver and you're not. I usually like to stay ahead of whoever but if it looks like someone wants to drive faster then cool. Pass me and keep going outta my way. I just want to keep moving with no one directly in front of me granted thats at about 9 over the limit. Don't pass me and then get right in front of me, even if its at the same speed I want to go. Sometimes I'll drop back and let them put a little distance between us. Sometimes I'll re-pass and make sure I get far enough ahead to break the "tractor beam zone" so they don't try to pass again. Bottom line, there is not usually not a car just ahead of me in the "cut off zone" to cause me a problem. If there is, I'm assuming he(generic) will cut me off and I'm ready to Evade and Conquer!
Now of course since I've verbalized it, I'm sure I'll get cut off all day tomorrow like a teenybopper's jeans on a hot summer's day.(How old is that reference?:impatient )

I don't think it because of our car's size... It's more because there seems to be a lot more bad drivers out there!

People are rushed to go somewhere, even when they don't know where they are going.

Most SUV drivers thinks they own the road and deserve the first place, right in front of everybody else! Once they're in front, they just slow down and take the left lane!

End of my rage! lol

I'm usually moving along too fast and tight to be cut off. I will forgive a mistake, as in the case of having to get into another lane to turn, etc. But those with the gall to 'prove something' will usually find themselves suddenly staring at my brake lights faster than they'd expect. Those who tailgate me had better hope there are no sharp turns coming up, for those have been the ulimate equalizers.

I think its the car
I used to drive a Dark Blue quite old Ford Taurus and no one would cut me off in that thing. I think it may be because partly it was a very large sedan, and that it was very old. My shiny little silver MINI gets cut off everywhere. People don't care, they're bigger, and they probably care less about their cars. Just have to pay attention.

I find it worse is all of the people think I am driving slow just because I am in a MINI and pull in front of me, only to then drive slower than I was... why do they do that?!?! geez.

I just came back from a long road trip, NorCal to LA and San Diego and back. When I was in LA, along with the craziest of the crazy drivers, I actually cherished riding in a MINI. It's easier to get into the lanes you want, I cut through solid walls of traffic to get from parking lots to left hand turn lanes, and I drafted people on the interstate to save gas (I stopped cuz a lot of people got freaked out).

I never really got cut off, either cuz I drive a bit fast, I was tailgating on the interstate, or maybe it was the cop donation sticker I left in my rear window for the trip.
That thing has a badge on it, and made a couple SUV's slow down and ride behind me. Geez, what the hell were those people thinking, who would believe a DS MCS is a cop?

Not when I posted in it but do a NAM search. I know I have seen a thread showing it on here

I too once thought that MINIs evoked rude behaviour in other drivers. So, I started taking note of other drivers behaviour while in my MINI and while driving my wife's Accord.

The bottom line is that I have not noticed any big difference in the number of times I was cut off, overtaken impatiently, drag raced at the stop light, etc. It doesn't matter what car I was in---you encounter the same rude people everyday, and they don't care what car you are driving.

It all balances out though, I wents flying around an RX-8 that thought it would be fun to merege with 70MPH traffic at 30MPH, I didn't have anyone get on my tail after that, and FYI I stayed at 3 under the whole time I was on the highway, multiple semis passing on a two lane backed things up some, but I had plenty of space. I also had aford ranger where I could here this person laugh every time they passed me, I just lughed back everytime they stopped for the Red and I only had to drop to second cause it was gree n by the time I got there, six times in a row she still didn't catch on to what the toy car was doing.

These are some funny stories guys. Yeah, I just flow with traffic but for some reason, people feel the need to cut in front of me at the last second. It's like they don't want to be passed by a Mini or something, but whatever. yeah, check out "SUPER HELLA TONES" Some of my Subaru buddies have them and are they loud! They may have some applications for Mini's as well. As for this thread, I'm glad to see Im not alone.

I don't have rear fogs but I am comfortable with that zone where the brake lights are on but the pads aren't slowing you down yet.

Quote: I'm not sure what people mean when they say they're being "cut off", cars get in front of me all the time and I get in front of other cars too, but as long as we all do it without incident and get to where we are going, no need to get all bent out of shape over some perceived slight.
I'm glad you said that. I've noticed some people think they've been "cut off" if another car requires them to reduce their spend at all. It's extremely rare that I am cut off to a degree that I consider it a problem. If I need to slow down a bit because someone took an opportunity to pull into the never ending flow of traffic, that's not a problem.

On the way back from the DMV getting the tags for my MCS, I had a guy in an Avalanche try to cut me off between stoplights getting to the on ramp for the interstate.

He started coming over, I didn't move ...he sped up, I sped up, I didn't move ...he started coming over again, I didn't move ...you get the point.

The most important thing is I won in the end and I'm sure his ego, which was probably as large as his Avalanche, took a hit that day....I mean, if he was on an Avalanche forum, do you think he'd jump up and admit he was shut down by a MINI ?!?!?!!!!

OK, I REALLY dont get this. What, exactly, did you win?

Wouldn't it be a bit better if MINI drivers were "courteous" to ppl?

Wouldn't it be better to be kind to the other driver and be "better" than them?

I guess not ... its more fun to "win"

It is very common here with all the meatheads in their jacked up trucks and SUVs. The overcompensating thing is so true. It really doesn’t matter how quickly you’re going - you are a threat in front of them. They’re compelled to ride your **** and cut you off so they can show their dominance. These are the guys who were picked on in the playground and now they’re “gonna’ show the world how tough they are.” I just try to not let them get in front. Their big tires throw rocks on my windshield. I like to bait them, though, when I know there is a speedtrap and/or redlight camera ahead. Most are mouthbreathers and have no brain function so I just act like I am going to race them, slow down, then watch them show off and get pulled over. Works like a charm.

I tend to keep a rather long gap from the car in front, 15-30ft or even more, unless it's bumper to bumper traffic, thus give plenty of room for other cars to maneuver in if they want to, wouldn't say it's like a cut-off.
On the other hand I confess I cut-off other cars a lot, mainly because I have a habit of picking the exit line at the last minute, and Mini just makes it even easier, I try to be polite in the cut-off process though .

But what right does this guy have to muscle ahead on an onramp?
Get in the right lane to start with and we won't have any problems. I'm courteous if it's obvious the person has made a genuine mistake or is out of state but if you are just doing it to be an ******* and get 2 seconds ahead then you ain't going to see me giving way.

From what I am seeing in this thread the problem drivers are the MINI owners!

What an baffoon! Did he have his blinker on? You have an excuse if he had no blinker. but if he used a blinker you are 100% in the wrong here

Again, se above comment.....I think the inferiority is found in the MINI drivers head

Quote: To me being cut off is:
1) when someone squeezes their car in between me & the car in front of me when there isn't really enough room to do it safely causing me to have to hit my brakes (I don't tailgate at all but I don't really follow the 4 second rule either )
2) when someone races around me & pulls in front of me narrowly missing hitting my front bumper
3) when someone speeds up just to get in front of me & once they pull in front of me they slow down
If you dont HAVE to hit your brakes to avoid an ACCIDENT then you weren't cut off! just because someone is close to you and you cant follow at that distance is irrelavant.....The passing car is traveling faster when they make the lane change they are moving AWAY from you....All rage is accepted if they get in your lane only to jamb on the brakes....thats diffrent

Getting cut off never has been a problem for me. Maybe the drivers here in central Virginia are more polite. I was, however, tailgated by a bonehead in a Lexus last week. I'm following another car in the left lane on I 64 when "Mr. Mover and Shaker" filling up my mirriors... like what am I going to do? "Let's all move over for Lexus boy?" Nope. Right foot on the gas, left foot on the brake enough to turn the brake lights on.

No more tailgating. He got the message.

Well, to me "being cut off" means that they did not give me a notice that they were changing lanes. At the last minute, they decide they want to come into my lane and they pretty much force their way over and I have to brake in order not to hit them. I dont drive like an A$$ and go and flick them off, but it is kind of rediculous that this happens to me about 3-4 times a week!
