I had it happen about 500 miles into a very long road trip. It scared the LIVING HELL out of me...seriously. I had my HK radio playing at the time (somewhat loudly too ).

Even Motor Trend mentioned this audio screech in their long-term review of the MINI.

"The up-level stereo brought universal satisfaction, delivering strong, crisp music that added to the joys of driving the Mini. That is, until it started to have an oscillating volume issue, leading to a possessed, static-screeching tweeter."

So, it appears you are not listening to the Megadeath CD afterall.

I started this thread yesterday, as I did not think to search under "my mini screamed at me."

This almost made me crash...

So has anyone with this replaced the HK amp? Was it fixed. I might go next week and see if I can get a new one.

Happened to me too - only once so far in 6 weeks and 6000 miles.
Unless it starts happening more frequently I am not going to do anything about it.

I do also have the H/K package and it did definitely come from the speakers.

The H/K amp was the cause of my problem. It was replaced and no problems since.

This happened to me today. I had a friend in the car. She freaked. So, I need to have my amp replaced? Great.

I'm the thread starter. I've never had it happen since. I wouldn't worry about it.
