R50/53 Calling 866.ASK.MINI
So, how often do you call?
Once a week? Everyday? 2-3 times a day?
Do you suppose Jen and Emily and the rest have little tally sheets by their keyboards, or maybe track it in the system?
'Yup, there's miniSail again, second time today.'
'Oh yeah, Ryephile has him beat, four calls since noon.'
Do you suppose they get tired of hearing from us? Who's your favorite? Should I call one more time today?

I phoned today but I haven't more than a few times since July. Spoke with Amanda. I get answers to my questions but I have to be careful how I phrase what I'm asking. It seems that the most important part of these rep's training is "be careful not to obligate BMW/MINI to anything, if possible."
Amanda's favorite thing to say is, "each MINI dealer is independently owned and operated. I cannot say one way or another what your dealer should do."

I used to call once a week, until my MCS landed in Jersey City, which is less than an hour away from its final destination. Now I've been calling once or twice a day.
Yesterday Jen, told me to call back before 9:00 to see if the trucking company had finally picked the car up.
She is the most friendly.

>>Forgive for asking but what is that phone number for??
If you are a Mini Owner To Be, and can't go without knowing how your car is progressing, you can call and ask for the status. The kind folks at ASKMINI can let you know where in they process your car is - assembly, painting, on the boat, at the dealer, etc.

boyracer: Since you are in England, this number won't help you much. It is for MINIUSA. It is essentially the MINIUSA Hotline.
Hope that makes more sense to you with that slight clarification!

Maybe I'm the exception to the rule. I think I only called Ask Mini once after ordering my MCS in Sept. 2002, just to verify they had the order. I used the website and called my dealer (Motor City Mini) if I had questions. The only other time I called was to get some information on financing.
I have gotten calls from BMW North America and Mini asking how I like the car, etc.

Exception to the rule but not alone. I called only once to verify that the car was speced correctly because the OL was slow and incomplete.
I even arranged the financing with my dealer via e-mail and snail mail .

What a great idea, I wish we had something similar here in the UK. I have my Mini now so I don't need to follow the progress of its assembly and if I ever have any questions I suppose I will have to just ask you guys.
Ok, I called last night on the way home from work (still 150), and it was Jen again. I told her my Prod # and gave her my name and she said, "I remember you, didn't we talk last night?" Maybe it was because I have an uncommon name (initials), or maybe I do call too often. I just hope my wife doesn't get jealous . . . . about Jen OR the new car!

>>Wouldn't it be cool if MINI set up their MRP system to email you everytime the status changed. It would be pretty simple on their part and would be exciting for us.
Hmm, that would be very cool on our part. And I just happen to do ERP consulting work. Wonder what system they are using? And if they want a hand making this enhancement?

I didn't call them too much during production stuff.. probably just thrice.. but once it hit the shores, I called about twice a day. Just called for the last time, as they told me a truck carried her off this morning....
It's been fun, ASK MINI.. I'll miss you guys..
They were very nice people...

I waited 2 weeks after I placed the order, then once a week. Now it will be every day now that it has reached "150" status and should be completed 3/14.
Jen and Amanda are really nice (and James), and they all seem so happy to talk to you and encourage you to call as often as you like. They know the obsessive behavior these cars create!
This "eraly" customer service" is top notch. Let's see what happens when it's real problems.

I ordered my Roadster on August 22. The dealer said it would likely take the full 90 days. Feh. We are going on vacation right about the time it's due so it could be a couple weeks beyond that. (The up side is that while I won't be able to ride with the top down for several months, the heated seats are going to be a treat!)
I love my Toyota pickup but it is about ready for retirement (or at least partial retirement with occasional work days during bad weather). Looking forward to a car that starts every day no matter the weather and doesn't leak oil like a sieve.
