Exterior Lights Stuck On???

Last night, as I was loading the dishwasher, I noticed that Ollie's lights were on. So, at about midnight I schleped outside to turn them off. However, once I got into the car, I realized that the lights were off (little rotating thing was in off position). So I turned them on, then turned them off and all was well with the world. I locked my car via the key and returned to bed.

Once I was lying in bed, thinking about it, I remembered that I'd driven home entirely in daylight yesterday -- my headlights were never on (as I had realized, now reinforced). And, also in thinking, realized that the lights I'd seen on were only the driving lights and the front amber lights.

I was really tired, and I much prefer avoiding situations when I can't think of a clear road out So I just went to sleep, but now I'm worried that it's actually the lights that blink when you lock the car that were stuck -- and if that's the case, then I think I'm headed for a dead battery this morning...

Anyone had this happen or know why the blinky lights would stick???

I have had my brake lights get stuck on. It's happened a few times, the dealership can't find a problem.

My headlights spontaneously came on several times during the 1st three months I had my Mini. It caused my battery to die one time. Like you, I would see the lights on & go outside to find that the steering wheel control was in the OFF position. Ghost in the machine I quess . They quit coming on after awhile. I guess my ghost got bored & went elsewhere

If I recall there is a TSB for this which calls for the BC1 to be replaced. It's M6320005 and affects all models before 3/12/05.

Yeah -- he moved to my car!

Everything was normal when I went out to the car this morning...

I had it happen with my headlights a bunch of times. I originally had both the DRLs and Follow Me Home lights as activated. After that happened I had the dealer disable the Follow Me Home lights (because they thought there might be some sort of conflict with the DRLs that was causing it) and I haven't had the problem since.
