The MINI overpriced???

To those of you that have issues with folks saying they've bought an overpriced BMW here's a bit of data for you...back in the late 80's while doing work in Scotland for the company I work for there was a mini dealer in that particular town. It was in a showroom window(the only car in the window). It was red with a red top. The price then was 10,000lbs(my apologies as I can't get the character map to work on a laptop/the symbol for Britain's pound sign is Alt.+0163) or about $15,000 U.S. I bought my MINI in late 2004 with 2 extras and it went for just over $18,000. Now I'm no number whiz, but it only went up a few thousand in just over 16 years(the British price was before all the taxes). I'm fairly certain that's less than most auto cost increases in all those years. Not to mention the fact that we're getting more techno stuff for the buck/lb/euro.

So if you're one of the numerous people that just has to whine about how people talk trash of your mini(whether it's the price or it's supposed lack of machismo) just remember that you bought it for itself and not how it compares to everything else on the market. It's just the coolest car made...yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I agree with what you say though I do think some of the extras you can add on to the sticker price may be over priced. Still dollar for dollar where are you going to find as much fun in the car world these days for $20K?

agree wholeheartedly with kenchan... for what i'm paying i could get a lease on a 5 series. a low end 5 series to be sure and i'd have to have put a lot more down than first/last/security. i wanted a mini though and i wanted the exact color and features i wanted for it.

the way i look at it, once you decide not to buy something like a honda (no offense honda makes great cars, they're just rarely "desirable") you're throwing away money on the experience of driving. there's nothing wrong with that, but justifications to the money you are spending are just that.

Heck, why stop at a 5 series. . . you could get a lease on a private jet for the same price. . . just not for very long

You won't hear me whining. Out the door for a hair over $19k, I've been loving this car for 2 and a half years with no signs of slowing.

If I thought my MINI was overpriced with the options it has in it, I never would have bought it.

agreed

I got my Cooper loaded and I had no problem with the price. Every day I live with and drive it, I am more convinced it was the right decision, and very happy I got the '06 given what I see of the 'more Bangled' 07. You can not put a price on fun-to-drive. He!!, both my current cars, the telepathically handling Cooper, and the raw grab-it-by-the-scruff-of-the-neck 911SC TOGETHER don't have the horsepower of my previous two cars (a 2002 Carrera 4S, a 2002 M3) but both are equally if not MORE fun to drive.

I stopped checking option boxes before it became overpriced for me. With the money I had I got what was important to me. I think the MINI is a good value. If someone checks every box then I guess it's not overpriced for them either. Great cars & worth the $$$ whatever you've paid.

I'm with the PARTSMAN on this one.

Excellent value for the price for me. I also like the fact it is a few points out of range for the average Cavalier driver.
