Anyone have close up pix of the chrono? I would really appreciate them! I am not getting the nav anymore since its too much $ for a system that I dont really like! And I want the speedometer infront of me! Thanks!!!!!

Indeed that is what my looks like on the '06. One thing to mention is that both the previous photo and mine also are with the chromeline interior package.

Bleh! I really dislike the Chrono package, just my opinion. If you are only interested in it to have the speedo in front of you, do you know that if you have the center speedo, there is a digital speedo in the tach that is in front of you on the steering wheel

The wheel will block your vision of most of the speedo and tach anyway.

Why is it called the chrono pack anyway? I don't see a clock in there.

Wow! Didn't think there was such animosity towards the chrono pak. Here is why I like it...
1 The temperature guage actually works like a real guage as opposed to the one on the big speedo
2 The fuel gauge is over 180 degrees...I like knowing exactly where I stand.
3 I believe that the more input you have, the more in touch with your car you are

my 2 cents...

no it doesn't - if it does - adjust your steering wheel height

U could always try for the Australian spec dash. It has a single speedo pod on the column and a huge tacho in the middle.

This was required because Australian design rules don't allow for the speedo to be so far from the driver. (Of course there must be a quarter million classic mini's in Australia with a large center speedo - go figure).

I have. They move with the wheel. I can't see the top of the tach.

Just do the calculations... it takes all of 30 seconds to do it!

and I'll second the Autometer

This is a good point. I have NAV and therefore my speedo is on top of the steering wheel. However it is difficult to read quickly or accurately because the dial is so small and the tick marks only every 10 mph. On a quick glance, I could be reading off by 2-3 mph.

With the onboard computer (included with NAV and chrono pack), you lose the digital speed readout. If I had digital speedo, I'd use it even though the analog speedo is already over the steering wheel.

I dont performance drive or race, so its never needed...
If I did, Id get the ALTA gauge pod and gauges... looks MUCH better and doesnt remove the center speedo.....

I only dislike it because I had it.....

Is this really true? I thought that even with the chrono pack you still got the digital speed readout along with the computer that's part of whichever package it's part of. I hate the center mount speedo, so I got the chrono. But I also like the idea of the digital readout.

There was a thread a short while backa bout how to get it back, also you could always have the dealer disable the onboad computer

Thanks for that info. That is really disappointing. It seems really stupid that MINI would remove a capability like that from the car just because you select this option. Wouldn't it make more sense to just always use the same tach instead of having separate ones? I found the other threads you mentioned and it sounds like there's no work around other than constantly hitting the reset button which is not something I want to be doing all the time. Bummer.
