I've had cute bartender chics ask "whos mini is that outside? can i check it out?" fine w/ me.

Had my contractor over yesterday, and was asking about the mini...
Contractor:"my daughter loves that car".
My wife says "see, how old is your daughter?"
Contractor:"twenty six".
ME: "maybe i should be dating 26 yr olds!

Just get a MINI and motor in your cute chick, little, fuel economy clown car and enjoy it!

I can't believe that there is a thread about this... Who cares what people think... If you don't like your MINI, you'll get rid of it. If you do like your MINI... you'll keep it!

Haha, I knew I was gonna get this reaction since this horse has been beaten many times before.

Like I said, when I originally posted, I just had to vent...and it worked.

You guys think the misinformation about the MINI is bad, try driving a DeLorean! Between the coke stored in the doors that also need 3 feet of clearance to open and the Ford/GM/AMC V8, I've heard it all.

The only thing I still get is my mom thinking the MINI is a death trap. Doesn't matter how many times I show her the crash test results that also show it's safer then her own car, she just doesn't get it.

That, my friend, is why I do not have a MCS. Gotta love concerned mothers lol

Don't explain, just drive. I like the car particularly because most people don't "get" it. Its was the same with my old Sunbeam Tiger. Even many on this forum wouldn't "get" that.

Okay just saw this, from original post how do you guys do it? Well 1) We get to drive the chick car everyday and 2) Darwinism

the are lost of ignorant fools out there that refuse to be even slightly open- minded to be aware of the fact that people have different needs philosophies and wants. You can't let it get under your skin or you'll always be walking around PO'd, so you must learn to laugh at the fools who refuse to acknowledge people are different than them! Thanks for the good times!

I believe people's ignorance of MINIs relates in large extent to their ignorance of Minis in general, and this relates to four other larger phenomenon: a certain very general tendency we have in the U.S. towards an isolationist view, to a very well-entrenched and skillfully-marketed muscle car culture, to a view of masculinity popularly defined along very narrow (and shallow) lines, and...we must admit it...a slight national superiority complex. Search within these and you will find why people don't "get" MINIs.

That there are as many car enthusiasts that blissfully and freely pursue their automotive fascinations of choice is testament to what makes our Nation great...but never, ever underestimate the force and sheer intimidation of mass culture. If one chooses to run outside the pale of mass culture, one must prepare find like-minded car enthusiasts (NAM comes to mind) to feed/nurture their unique and highly-enlightened interests (MINIs comes to mind), and one must also prepare to take one's lumps, at least now and again.

i saw where this was going early on, but i thought id just share my experience with the group. i dont hate on all SUV's, cause some people actually use them for their intended purposes. Everyone has a right to their opinions, its just them being misinformed and leading to random conclusions that sort of bothers me.

oh and i was really confused about the fishsticks joke, cause i didnt see "breading" i saw "breeding" haha

I don't let it bother me.

A friend of mine here at work has (among other things) a Bentley and a Ferrari. He is well known around here due to his rather conspicuous cars. He commutes to work in a MINI (non-S).

That has elevated the status of MINIs around here.

Why People are some misinformed about the MINI

When people question my car I simply reply that they are jealous. My brother for instance "thought" it was a chick car until he rode in it.....I scared the living crap out of him--changed his opinion real fast....Now he wants one Mine is a Liquid Yellow S with Black top which even more people go---"aw thats a chick car". So challenge them I say---Ask him if they really understand the car---and educate them

Is there any chance at all that everyone would consent to refrain from referring to ANY car as a "chick car"???

I could sink to that level and refer to all gas-sucking SUVs as big stupid "man cars" but I won't. For numerous reasons -- no the least of which being a tendency to avoid intentionally sounding like an idjit.

Seriously -- it's offensive.

I agree, of course. Pity is, as long at people "out there" still use this silly terminology it'll still appear here now and again, hopefully only in quoting someone who has stupidly mis-spoken.

Ah, good point Take it as a compliment though, women almost always have better taste than men. That's why us guys refer to anything with style as "girly."

But can't we just hit "those people" with our vaporizing ray guns?

(please?)

Addendum: I just can't see taking as comlimentary the fact that some folks are offended that people (silly people) associate their cars with women.

There ARE chick cars, though. You don't think the marketing people are trying to figure out an ideal male/female buyer ratio? Most carmakers are leaning towards "guys cars" these days (making the Miata a little more aggressive, making the Z4 mean looking, etc etc) but there are definately cars out there marketed towards women.

I just don't think the MINI is one of them. How feminine is a hood scoop??
