R50/53 Don't Lie.. who watched Italian Job...
I've watched the movie because my son, who drives the MINI in the family, wanted us all to see it. He had his MINI before we saw the movie, though, so it made the movie even more fun to watch. I made him promise me he did NOT drive his car the way those folks drove their cars in that movie!!
And you believed him?

Back on topic... I never really cared for the MINI looks when it first came out, so the movie didn't have a huge impact (although I did like it). It wasn't until I kept hearing about it's handling and "fun to drive" factor that it started growing on me. After a test drive, it was a mere 9 months of car torture as I waited for my MCS to arrive!

I mean wouldn't you want them all to have the same hp, handling, etc. What if for some reason they ended up in a different car at the last minute and had been driving the S and now had the Cooper? I was really perplexed by this while watching the movie and probably missed some vital plot stuff because I was pondering
. Or maybe they were all the same type and I just happened to catch one of those continuity glitches. I guess my brain works like that, I'm always getting caught on one of those details in a movie and am just bugged by it

About this time last year we rented the movie on DVD. I had no idea what the cars were ... just small little things that looked cute but would never take seriously. They certainly weren't sports cars ...
A few weeks later we were reading the Consumer Reports yearly guide to 2005 cars, came across MINI ... read the specs and showed my wife ... whoa ... 143 inches? Can that be real? ANYTHING with a back seat is BIG to her ... and we did NOT need a new car. She read the specs and said go buy one. I said "Wait a sec ... aint those the car in that movie we watched a few weeks ago?"
So I trudged back to the video store and rented the movie again ... this time just watching the car sequences. As others have said ... "Bullitt" it aint. SC whine or not, its ain't the same as the rumble of American Muscle. SHE went for a test ride and said buy it and thats it. It always works well to please the other half.
It fits her perfectly, like it was meant for her.

(Im looking for my DeLorean as we speak

I didnt want to go out and buy one after seeing the movie, but I honestly didnt think much of them before seeing it. It was the Saab breaking down too many times that made me want a new car and that wierd little car from that movie seemed like a good replacement.
I thought I hadn't seen it, so we rented it tonight, and then minutes in, I realized I had... though I'm not sure how I forgot it. It's really all a bunch of set-up for the chase scene, which was fine by me. Tough being a new MCS owner and watching how they beat all those stunt vehicles up, landing hard on the front axles and racing down stairs and slamming them around in the tunnel. It was nice to see that they didn't use any significantly tricked cars, like shells on a gimble or whatever, just beefed up suspension for the jumpers, and cut up the interior shot vehicles. And of course the electrics.
I was surprised to see them use 2 MCs and only 1 MCS but I think it was by design, as BMW would want to see both models represented on film for marketing purposes. If only all MCs had that whine...
ANyway, good stuff, entertaining chase scene, and made me both want to drive mine, and drive it carefully. Ha.

I own the movie on DVD, and have for a LONG time (well before I got my MINI). BUT, I have never watched it. I've stuck it in a few times but have never been able to get more than 25 mins into it before something comes up. Bad timing on my part.
Mikey (ChiliCooperS) has seen it 33 times...I thought that was worth sharing, don't you Mikey?

I was hooked on the MINI after seeing the original Italian Job in the '60s as a kid. I knew then I just had to have one of these cars. Then the remake came out and that just reinforced for originall feelings about the MINI. Wasn't the best movie, but the idea was great and they looked like they were having fun. I'm sure MINI has sold many a MINI by the release of the Italian Job. In fact, of the many dealers I visited last fall, I think almost every one of them had this movie playing a TV in the dealership sales area.
I've wanted a MINI since I lived in London in 2000. I was finally able to order mine a few weeks ago (he's sailing to me now!). Yesterday, the desire to drive my MINI was so strong that I just had to watch the Italian Job and drool over Charlie's MINI. Although I winced in pain everytime a MINI was hurt.

.I did not see the movie until I was already serious about buying one. Which was 30 seconds after I stopped into a dealer for a test drive. The movie came after. But then it was watched again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and....
