R50/53 Diesel MCS - would you buy this car??
Diesel MCS - would you buy this car??
I know there is a Diesel Mini in the UK, but let's be honest - the engine is crap. Now, the BMW 120d has a little turbo diesel in it which I think would be a perfect addon to the line up
120d 1,995cc 16 valve common rail 4 cylinder diesel: 122kW (163bhp) at 6,000 rpm;
340Nm (251 lb ft) torque at 2,000 rpm.
More interesting: 120d manual: 0-60 7.6 seconds; top speed 137 mph; combined mpg: 49.6; CO2 emissions: 152g/km.
Now who thinks a diesel Cooper S might just be the ticket - look at that torque and the mileage figures!! Would probably push the base price up a bit, but I would love the look on peoples faces when you roar off at the lights. Now if they could just tune the backfire 'effect' in like on the current S...

the real question is whether the 2.0 L engine will fit inside the engine compartment. i would suspect that diesel lump would weigh significantly
more and have a larger volume than the 1.6 L gas motor.
should be a nifty packaging deal if it can be done.

judging by the pictures of the 120d and assuming its engine sits north/south,
the 2.0L diesel isn't going to fit in an east-west configuration between
the mini's wheels.
it's going to take major engineering to drop this lump into a current generation mini.
w/ the weigh increase up front, the additional bits for AWD might not
be a bad idea to recover the front/back weigh balance.
