I usually don't listen to songs in the car, just because the supercharger sounds so damn sweet. But, if I do listen to a song it's always Prodigy - Firestarter..

I wonder how much music you'll REALLY be lisetning to on your way home..

With the H/K in my '05 MCS, I can't sometimes hear the engine, lol...
I love all sorts of tunes and that's why I have XM in the car. Some bands/artists I delve into when not on XM... My CD collection is somewhere around 700 these days:

RUSH
KING'S X
COLDPLAY
KING CRIMSON
JOE SATRIANI
STEVE VAI
BILL BRUFORD
YES
and on and on...

I have asked about this here as well because I want to do the same thing as you. I've been working on a music cd, yeah I know I can fit more on a data cd, for that first drive home and just motoring in general. Here is what my current version consists of:

Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Born to Be Wild - Steppenwolf
Little Duece Coupe - Beach Boys
The Wanderer - Dion
Black Betty - Ram Jam
Midnight Show - The Killers (thinking of replacing this with Driving too Fast - The Rolling Stones)
Good Times Roll - The Cars
Johnny B. Good - Chuck Berry
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Immigrant Song - Led Zepplin
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Takin' Care of Buisness - Bachman-Turner Overdrive
No Particular Place to Go - Chuck Berry
Rockin' Down the Highway - Doobie Brothers
Stiff Upper Lip - AC/DC
Float On - Modest Mouse
Anotherone Bites the Dust - Queen
Catch Us if You Can - Dave Clark Five
I Get Around - Beach Boys
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen (Top Gear and I agree this is the BEST driving song EVER)
The Kids Aren't Alright - The Offspring
I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar
To Get Down - Timo Maas (Italian Job)

Have fun listening to all the new songs..it made my ears hurt a few times. If you want further suggestions find my thread...think it was Motoring Tunes.

driving music

basically, anything with a good base line. Try Fugazi's "The Argument" or anything by Emmet Swimming.

It's the Velvet Revolver version....it's in the iTunes music store on their Slither (CD2)-EP.

I don't think these have been added, and they are part of my list I made to pick up the car yesterday.

Blur - Song 2
Deep Purple - Highway Star
jimmy Hendrix - Crosstown Traffic
Queen - Don't Stop me now
Spiderbait - Black Betty (this version is better than the ram jam version!)

I also threw a couple other songs in there...
Dylan - Stuck in the middle with you
Jimmy Eat World - The Authority Song
Paul Simon - You can call me Al
Steve Miller Band - The Joker
Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy and Werewolves of London.

kicks ***!

haven't built up my iTunes library yet, but I'm working on it
Here are my suggestions for driving music:
1) anything KMFDM (new release Hau Ruck)
2) anything Ministry (new release Rantology)

I also listen to Oasis and Depeche Mode. I definitely recommend the new Andy Bell CD

It's been a while since I had a car I enjoyed driving (my MINI is at the dealer today beginning prep work!) but when I did, I greatly enjoyed cranking just about anything by The Crystal Method up. For feelgood stuff, try Daft Punk, or Eiffel 65 (if you're played out on their US released music, go for the import CD, Contact, it's pretty good stuff). As for non-dance-music selections, Metallica's S&M is good, depending on the type of driving. Just about anything by Joe Satriani, as well. "The Extremist" is a good CD to start with, there -- check out the track entitled "Motorcycle Driver." That man can do some crazy stuff with a guitar.

Oh! I almost forgot to heartily recommend the band that's been my favorite for a couple of years now, Coheed and Cambria. They're something of an acquired taste for some, though people sometimes draw comparison to Rush (and they paid homage to them with a "hidden track" entitled 2113 on their 2nd CD under their current name) and their 3rd CD reminds me of some of the more epic stuff by Iron Maiden. They also win the "longest CD name ever" contest with CD titles like:

The Second Stage Turbine Blade
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: Frmo Fear Through the Eyes of Madness

Claudio, their lead singer, has also put out graphic novels telling the story of Coheed and Cambria. The albums are a companion to this story, starting at the second book, and presumably are to loop around to a prequel at the end. This is why the first album has a reference to 2 in the title, the second, 3, etc.

OK, I got a little long-winded there. But seriously, check them out. And if you don't like them on the first listen, give them a second listen. Claudio's voice is an acquired taste for some.

I have about three dozen play lists on my iRiver MP3 player dedicated specifically to in-car use, ranging from bass-pounding techno to classical to jazz and everything in-between...

This is where NOT having an iPod and the more expensive iPod adapter is an ADVANTAGE. I hook my player to my stereo with the cheaper "Aux" cable, and sure, I can't control my tracks with my steering wheel switches (just the volume), but I can play more than 4 or 5 "recognized" playlists, AND, since I use a suction-cup MP3 player holder, I get full-time track info right on the player's LCD display. I even set my player to have the backlighting always on when hooked to DC power, so I can read it at night. It's extremely user-friendly and sounds incredible.

When the iPod interface chenges such that the track data displays on the stereo and the player can use as many playlists as the user wants, THEN I might consider "upgrading" to an iPod, but for now my "inferior" iRiver actually does more for me. 5000+ tracks + over 60 playlists = motoring bliss.

Petal to the Metal, The Italian Job Soundtrack.

My personal favorite:

Clubbed To Death (Kurayamino Mix) - Rob D From the Matrix Soundtrack

And I have to second someone who said Chemical Brothers, Block Rockin' Beats

Dragula (Hot Rod Herman Remix) - Rob Zombie (also from Matrix - techno meets Rob Zombie)

Stuck in the Middle with You - Bob Dillon (brings to mind a scene from Reservoir Dogs)

Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson

Tipsy - JKwon

Mudvayne - pretty much any song, but my favorite is Not Falling

Beastie Boys - Hey Ladies

Shoot - I have so many others, but I don't have my iPod with me....

Wanna, your playlist sounds like one of mine...

Mixing in Dylan with techno is indeed wonderfully appropriate in this list - I'll have to break out my old reissue CDs.

Chemical Brothers are great in the car, and I'd put a little Crystal Method into this mix as well - "PhD" would be awesome in there, as would "Busy Child" or "Keep Hope Alive".

Ooooh! Ooooh! My wife and I heard "Battle Flag" by the Lo Fidelity Allstars this morning on XM. SUCH a cool tune! And I'm a rocker at heart. :-)
