Yes my job deals with dead people and no I'm not an EMT. Now with that said, I will tell you all a story that got me thinking.

I went on a call that was for a fatal car crash. To young men went a little to fast around a bend in the road and hit a tree. The car hit the tree sideways and killed the driver. The airbags deployed but they were only front airbags no side impact airbags. The cause of death was internal injuries also very common. So I started to wonder if he would have had a better chance or would have lived if the car had side impact airbags. The car was pretty messed up but not to the point of being unident ifiable. Not that I want to find out firsthand or anyone for that matter but I was wondering.
