R50/53 Why the cold weather pkg is not a must...
...I went for a ride in my boss's brand new Camry Solara convertible today and he has heated seats. I must say the heated seats are pretty nice. They heat up long before the fan starts blowing warm air. The only problem is I imagine the warmth would put me to sleep on a long ride, no joke!

For my feelings on the seat heaters/CWP, see this post from the other thread.

Also, the washer fluid is not heated, it is the nozzles themselves are so that they do not get covered with ice and obstruct the flow. Of course, it wont doia athing for several inches of snow.

MGA: no heated seats, no heater, no radio, no AC/ABS/TCS/FI/OHC...
MCS: all the above and more. It's called "progress"

One of my vehicles has seat heater and seat cooler which is really nice for the leather in summer.
For those that have heaters in your cars - how often and for how long can you have the seat heater on the high setting? That is one hot heater. That's not a bun warmer - its a grill!
Here is how spoiled I have become - How come more cars don't have heated steering wheels? That makes even more sense to me. Even after the rest of me is nice and warm the steering wheel is like gripping an ice cube on cold winter days and takes way too long to warm up.
I guess I am the ultimate wrong person to post on this thread - sorry.

Yea to heated seats
for only $300 for the package it's a steal. Look at getting seat warmers aftermarket that will cost more than double the whole package.
Heated seats are very nice with a cabrio when it's 60 outside and people think you're crazy for having the top down. Also, at, er, certain times of the month, very helpful for the back. I only wish that these were more adjustable. My 02 Passat had 5 levels of warmth. I find with the mini, I have to cycle between low and high a lot.
I live in Texas and also dont see the need for heated seats, although everyone in my club LOVES them. I have sat in one that had them done aftermarket, and it was nice but i can see spending $300 elsewhere.
Because I'm a Wisconsinite, it's useful during the winters and even to help with some minor back problems during long drives (which I do get from time to time)
While it's not a necessity, I prefer heated seats for my cold bum during hard times.

I love the heated seats in my cabrio as just another way to make open motoring hot (in addition to the windows, the windscreen, the ear muffs, the scarf, the towel, the gloves, the hat, and the down jacket).
The heated seats please the wife.
The heated seats are a start to my stretching when I drive to my over 50 soccer games . . . they are also a part of the second day therapy.

That and the rain sensing wipers I could not justify.
I drove a soft top six cylinder Wrangler for four years w/o heated anything and I did just fine... I knew the little four cylinder on my MINI would get toasty pretty quickly even on the coldest days. I put that cash towards the Xenons and have not regretted it yet. Too many deer along my commute.

very true if youre a northeasternern who doesnt use their MINI as their only means of transport.
But for those who need it during the winter months, it may be worthwihle to get. Besides, who wouldnt be able to find another option that the $300 could go towards

When my wife told me she wanted the MINI to have heated seats I was not really onboard. I had never had heated seats any of my cars before so I didn't think it was necessary. Boy was I wrong! We garage our MINI but it is really nice to turn those seats especially in the winters here in Ohio. Plus if you have leather it is really a must.
I had this on my list for a long time but pulled it a month before I placed my order. In Seattle it rarely gets anywhere near freezing or even really cold. For resale, excluding taking it in the mountains, it doesn't get cold much in the. My car will be garaged and we'll have cloth seats.
I swaped with the convenience package as it rains (use to) a lot here, gets dark real early in the winter and I just built a garage onto my house....and I forget to turn on the lights all the time.

well, I 've never experienced forty below but have been in 22 below and my heated seats were quite nice...but even when it is 40 above, I LOVE my heated seats and wouldn't buy another car without them...but my windshield wahers nozzles were frozen for a couple of days last winter
1) If you have never had the comfort and want to save $300.00.
2) If you live where there is little or no freezing rain.
3) If you worry about reliability.
4) If you are hardy enough to spend winters in Maine w/out cwp.
5) If having seats that heat up long before the heater does seems superfluous.
I've had cwp on my past four cars. As long as it's an option, especially a measily $300, count me in!
Like it.
Northeastern Ohio (Cleveland) winters + Cold WX Package = worth the $$. Trust me on this. Winter '04/'05 was THE snowest winter on record and all 3 items in the CWP worked great! One concern though, the heated mirrors are on ALL the time and I'm a little worried of their longevity. Oh well, BMW has been using heated mirrors for years so............
