Outdoor Car Cover For MINI

Well, it looks like I'm going to have my MINI parked for the next few weeks in an open parking lot. I want to get a car cover. Having heard the OEM ones look cool, but really aren't soft against the paint finish, I am a little concerned.

Since I go to great lengths to keep my car dust and scratch free, even though it is my daily driver this fact is critical to my choice. I would like to spend less than $150 if possible.

So I'm considering this cover--seems like a good price, and from what I've read about Coverbond-4--being able to protect from door dings, children, and pets, as well as water and dust, it sounds ideal.

Has anyone gotten one of these yet? Just curious how big it will be when stored.

Also, I want the cover to be lockable--not sure if all car covers come ready for this or not.

Santa Ana's are the reason my Cooper went inside

Hey Richard,

My Cooper suffered some clear coat damage from the car cover, even after I tied the outdoor car cover down very secure with rope to minimize wind blowing into the car cover during these last windy Santa Ana's...

You can get cables with cut little locks, but anyone that wants to cut up your car cover will bypass that in a heartbeat.

FYI, and good luck,

- Charlie

Hey Charlie,

I've talked to a few people and while you've got the good looking OEM cover, they say it's just not soft enough on the inside to prevent scratches from happening.

The Coverbond 4 material I'm looking at is being used to cover a lot more expensive Corvettes and other prized cars, so I'll will probably give them a shot.

Thanks for the heads up.

Cool, that's good to know

Do they make any claims about protection against scuffing as far as you know ?

I will have to look into it, as I am not happy with the clear coat rubbing off in high winds

I'll let you know on Wed, but they said that they use the covers themselves and say it's very soft, unlike the inside of your cover. Also they said it fits very snugly, but the kind of winds you had--my guess is nothing could protect against that.
