What is a chick car? Does "chick car" imply wussy car? If they are "chick" cars, meaning that women like them, wouldn't a single, hetero guy want to drive one? Otherwise who's he trying to impress? Other straight guys I guess? I guess it depends on your priorities... People savvy enough to know that Minis offer great handling and performance as well as awesome styling would realize that the same is true of the cabrios.

Why is it considered an insult if women like particular cars? I have always been into cars, since I was a child! When I see the "is it a chick car" comments tossed around the forums, I wonder why guys think women do not like cars, or are aren't into them?! That is a silly stereotype.....

This is a very tired topic.....

yes my MINI is cute... BUT when people call any car a chick car thats just ignorant... If I had the money and liked the different bodystyle I would have got a an S Vert but I settled for an S... people men and women come up to my car and say thats looks cute is it electric...I (very nicely) say no and if you want to see my "cute" "chick car" go to the track on Thurday...

Basicly some guys think women can't be motorheads or like cars or DRIVE THEM they think they are the show girls that stand next to the car... blah blah blah I say get over it! sexist crap is that... crap so move on in life and stop complaining.

I think if we base it on our own experiences, we wouldn't be wrong to say "most women aren't into cars"....maybe that's what one person has come across in life. There are exceptions to everything, every rule, every statement, yes cars and racing and all things automotive are generally more interesting to a greater number of males than females, but there are women who get really into it. And vice versa, there are things like fashion that are generally more interesting to a greater number of females than males, but there are males who are really into it. We're not saying women CAN'T get into cars and can't race, but generally they don't do that as much as men. Men and women are different. I don't think anybody's doubting that women can like cars or should like them.

As for being a chick car, I think the MINI takes on the image of its driver. If I see a guy in one, it looks like a guy's car to me, if I see a girl in one, it looks like a girl's car. That's what I like about it. It isn't a hardcore guy's car or a hardcore girl's car (like a V6 Mustang )

no offense to the ladies

--Ooops sorry OmToast and to all the ladies everywhere. I said MOST girls, NOT all of them. Two of my former girlfriends were SCCA racers so I know women can be equal or better racers, mechanics and just plain motorheads than any other guy out there. I didn't mean any disrespect to the opposite sex at all, but the fact is most girls are not into cars. A few of them (bless their hearts) are more into cars than the motor heads I wrench with and they know more than MOST guys I hang with about cars.

If you're a female motor-head Major MAJOR props to you. I see you as an equal whether on the race track, in the garage, or anywhere else.

It's just a simple plain fact that most women aren't into cars enough to know the differences between performance cars. It's no reflection on the intelligence of the sex or their education for that matter. I was just making a point that the Mini above all other cars has transcended sexual barriers and is noticed above all other cars even by people who don't really know cars. That's all. Sorry if I offended anyone.

we have a winner!

--Hey chows4us you're one of the lucky ones then if you married a motorhead. But how many other women you know are as enthusiastic or knowledgeable about cars as she is?

C'mon I didn't say all women, I said MOST. So tell her I'm sorry k? No offense but last I checked Redbook, and Cosmo never ever had an article on how to install the brembo brake kit, or a "how to" on drifting.

Oh, and you're right, they(women with nice comments) DO want my car. But they're not getting it. Not mine anyway!

--pyratio

p.s. yeah I know the SHO went bye bye. So did the 5.0 V8 in mustangs. But most girls I know don't know that. But then again it's so hard to get away from all these Baywatch girls that hang around in Hawaii. You KNOW that they all look like that in Hawaii right? NOT! Hey stop stereotyping me!

Your right man, I am a lucky one and I told her that just last night after reading this thread. I keep saying she was born with a 4-speed in her right hand

Whenever she "lets me" drive "her" car, she keeps saying:

"Make this thing sing" which is her way of saying get the SC whining

But I do have to agree that she does have a difficult time trying to explain to some of her friends and family, past and present, why she likes what she likes "sports cars"

Well, last time I opened my mouth I got bombarded by the moderators, and got warnings right and left. Hey guys, I am holding myself so hard not to write what I really think about this issue. I have one think to say:

"1984911Porsche",

I should disagree on the chick-car, but hell, it is definetely a CHICK-MAGNET." if that's what you are concerned about, and before starting to attack people here, please get rid of that old beater Porsche, do not care about how Porsche it is, I rather have a new VW Beetle.

Now I am waiting for PMs from Miniclo

Redbook??? Cosmo???? Those are the trash rags upon which you base you view of "most" women?????

My points are that:

1. Using that stupid "most women don't like cars/do read Redbook" crap makes the user seem like the most SUPREME idiot. To the point that they shouldn't ever be taken seriously about anything ever again. I read that drivel and started whacking myself in the head because I cannot BELIEVE that people still think like that.

2. It kills me -- KILLS me, as in; I die a little inside each time I hear it -- that people use "chick car" in a derisive manner. I don't walk around talking about how;"Oh, it looks like a man cleaned this house or baked these brownies" to descibe opposite stereotypes becasue a.) I don't want to sound STUPID, and b.) I just ASSUME that men and women are equally capable of all things.

So to the next person who even humors the idea of "chick car" outside of the realm of Lois's "It's my car, I drive it and I'm a chick" I ask that you just not speak ever again. Just... don't talk. Or type. Or anything. Live in a cave. Go away. Withdraw from society altogether. Please. :impatient

I never post in any thread of this type because I think the question is stupid and the person is just baiting everyone.

It looks like he’s caught more than his limit of suckers and has moved on.

Interesting topic....

I live on the right coast Mountains of NC) and watched "Two & a Half Men" the other night and was SHOCKED!! to find out that the Porsche Boxster is considered a Girl's"" car in CA. This is apparently so well established that they built an entire show around the concept. Most everyone I know wishes they could own one (or at least drive one)....different stereotypes for different parts of the country I guess. Not enough MINI's around here for them to be anything other than "cool" for both sexes....Our version of the woman's car is...take your pick:

1. New Beetle (used to be cool for either genders...but that was a few years ago)
2. New Beetle convertible ..'nuf said
3. The universal Mustang 6 cylinder
4. Any Tahoe/Suburban or minivan.
5. Here in the mountains, Pickups are still work trucks mostly, so consider them "Macho".

Be interesting to see if this varies according to parts of the country...but I'd personally LOVE to be able to own a Porsche Boxster...actually only the Boxster. I consider the more expensive ones styling tools for overpaid playboys.... who can't afford a Ferrari yet (or spent all their money on gold chains)

In Central florida one car I notice that is driven by mostly women is the Toyota Celica. I am not saying the celica is wussy or girly but, I would say about 90% of the time i see a celica (gt, or not) it is driven by a girl. anyone else notice this?
