agree. Maybe they are biased against the MINI's look. If they think it is "toy-like" they wouldn't change their perception even if you force them behind the wheel.

as some forumers said before, if I were in OP's situation I would save $ myself to buy my dream car later. In this case I won't be obliged to buy their choice.

New plan of attack is underway.

I just made my mother read a glowing review of the MINI from Motor Trend. Trying to get her to soften up my dad about this. Trying to get some support from outside the family as well.

It's a full scale attack!

Me thinks if the MINI had a "H" or "T" logo in the bonnet, it wouldn't have been a brainer.

Typical Japanese car lover balooney

They dislike the car because is not made by a manufacturer whose corporate offices are in some Tokyo skyscrapper.

I was fortunate that my parents didn't have bias against a car because of brand or point of origin.

Excellent!

We all applaud your efforts and let it be known that the whole NAM community is behind you in these endeavors!

Just say "NO" to Japanese cars

If your daddy gets some quality time behind the MINI, he may even dump his bore TSX for a "real" driver's car

Good luck my friend and STICK TO YOUR GUNS!

Don't back down!!!

the car is just out of their comfort zone I think. Parents just want to buy an appliance and dismiss the MINI as a flashy toy?

OP is right, a new plan of attack is necessary. Go mount some kind of family network pressure against parents would work well. Also scout the library (or online) for all the glowing reviews. Leak those reviews bit by bit to relatives and family friends whom your parents trust. Be patient while at the meantime save up some money. As a previous post said, save up $ and buy a $1000 used car first, then save up bit by bit to buy the MINI later.

Good luck OP!

To japanese lovers

Mini is about difference in fun to drive and feeling in connection with a car.
Recently, I drove a New Mustang (05) in V8 form and an 04 Subby WRX STI.
Great cars, great cars. But...
when I get down of then, there is this sensation of going back to my MCS A.S.A.P and have a good run in the twist.

so even the STI is not as connected to the road as the MINI?

I have no doubt with your Mustang claim. My friend has a Maxima and even from his driving experience with the new Mustang he felt it is not "connected to the road or driver" as he wanted it to be.

No don't get me wrong. I don't dislike "japanese rides" as I owned a few of those for 12 years. Actually what gets to me is the attitude of some people that still believe Japanese cars are the best thing since sliced bread and I beg to disagree completely with that mentallity.

in fact i read it somewhere online that Acura considers itself the Japanese BMW, and in some terms, even better than the Germans.

The STI is GREEEEAAAT, but left me with a feeling of getting back to my MINI in a curve.
But the STI's torque is addictive!! The MINI has to be revvvvvvvv!

Acura is good, but it doesn't have the soul and style of a true luxury car. It's more of an appliance than a luxury car. I assume the same goes for Lexus or Infiniti

Lexus yes, but getting better.

Infiniti....no. Infiniti's are true sport/luxury vehicles imo.

I agree, Acuras are for the most part appliances. I do love the new '04+ TL though.

Went to look at the Mazda 3 again.

I pointed out how the metal seems to be weaker than the MINI. By a strange stroke of luck, there was a MINI Cooper parked by a Mazda3 in the parking lot. I commented on how the two aren't that different in size.

I may be wrong, but the tide seems to be turning...

Actually, the MINI is as wide as most midsize sedans, it is just the shortest car length wise.

If your parents wanted to make a comparison to a truly small car that resembles a death trap, look no further to the Mazda Miata. Those things are really tiny and ride very, very low to the ground in comparison to a MINI.

It's also as tall as many other cars.

But I still wonder why MINI didn't put a little flashing LED on the end of that antenna!
