R50/53 Hard Starter
Hard Starter
I have searched for a thread on this, but...
Our MINI has a hard starting problem. We think. We have to turn the engine over for about 3 seconds--it feels like forever--to get it going. It happens at all times: hot, cold; damp, dry; sitting for a while or not. I'm thinking we need new plugs, new plug wires. Got 15%+CAI. What gives?
Still love it, though...

I'm not sure wHAT YOU MEAN BY 15% cai but I don't think your issue is abnormal. I think on any given day or time mt 02 S takes about that long to fire up. Your solution of plugs and wires makes me think you are of the old school thought which is fine and dandy but I'd take it into the dealer first. I think the few seconds may simply be the computer checking out all the variables and adjusting before lighting off.

The wait is a good thing to do so the fuel pump has a chance to get fuel moving.
