Arm Rest Price - WOW

Does this sound right for a dealer installed armrest going into a Convertible S?

$250.00 for the armrest
$41.75 for a console adapter
$225.00 Labor (takes approx. 2 1/2 hours)

Total before tax - $516.75

Seems steep. Anyone else pay this much?

2.5 hours? Try less than 30 minutes. They are ripping you off on the labor. Buy the parts from Classic MINI, or any other dealership that offers discounts to NAM members, and then do the install yourself.

Also, a convertibe S should not require a console adopter. Only prior years models. Or am I wrong on that?

The official instructions specify 1 hour, and it should be less for a '05 vehicle. It's not too hard doing it yourself, which I would recommend. If you really want the dealer to do it, ask them why they're charging 2.5 hours labor for a max 1 hour job.

Here's the official instructions for reference:

Edit: goaljnky: You should be correct, which is why it should not even take an hour!

Or get an Elbow Landing Device. Sorry don't know how to do the link thing. But a search will find it. Takes longer to open the box, than to install. And is worth about $50 bucks.

Sorry to highjack your thread, but I may actually be in need of the same advice. I actually opted for the factory armrest ($300) already installed when I bought my Cooper S. I do like it very much, but no matter how much I try to avoid leaning on it when I get in, I am afraid one of these days my 185 punds will crush/bend it. :-(
Are any of the armrests sturdier or are less prone to "bad leverage" action?
Thanks
H

Best $50 I've spent on my MINI. Works great and looks good at a reasonable price.........
