Another chance to sound off:

What programming options did you have made, and how do you feel about them?

Is there any way, other than the "unlock everything when parking brake engaged" method and the double opener pull, of having locked doors open (from the inside) with only one pull on the handle? I have been lead to believe that you have to either unlock them or pull twice

Did anyone get/see the boot box, and what is it like?

How about the official sun shade? Do other shades cover the windshield sufficiently?

As always, thanks for the input.

I have the boot box... I really love it. It sure keeps things from tipping over. It will fold flat to store when not in use but I use mine all the time. It is kinda costly at $80.00 but worth it IMO. It does block the vents located in the back of the boot. I'm not sure what these vents do but it does block them... Maybe someone knows what they do and if blocking them is ok...

Hope this helps, Good luck, Paul
P.S. it fits with the 6 CD changer in place too...

Programming options: There is an option you can get to have the doors unlock when you shut the car off. I don't know if every dealer has this current software upgrade. We also have the option to lock the doors at 10 mph. I really like that one

We also have the boot box and love it!

I orderred mine through Schaffer Mini in Germany. The Germans apparently turn on just about all of the options before handing the car over to you. My locks, for instance, automatically lock down when I drive off ( i'm not sure of what speed triggers them, but 10mph sounds good), then when I turn my Mini off all the locks disengage even the boot. I don't think I've ever used the power locks switch.

Hope this helped,
Frank

Huh??? What's this? Sounds interesting (and maybe a bit scary).

What I really want is the speed sensitive wiper option...and I keep hearing that that's not available yet. I also sometimes hear that it's not actually a programmable option, but is actually only available when you have the "rain sensing wiper" feature. ???

I have the headlight delay and one-touch window down options chosen. But I have to say that the window thing only works about 1/2 of the time since the switch is a bit sensitive. You have to hit it (on my MCS) just right or it assumes you DON'T want the window to go down all of the way. Fortunately, I don't have to use too many non-EZ Pass toll booths.

jsun - as far as the door locking things, in every car I have ever driven, even if the doors are locked, you pull the inside handle and it unlocks and opens together. But from reading through the 2002 manual, it looks like once the door has been locked, from the inside one either has to pull twice or unlock using the central unlocking system (or by having the programmed option to unlock at whatever point). Is this not the case?

how does everyone's door unlocking work?

Never tried it (but will now!). I've always assumed that even if the door was locked you could just pull the handle and it would open from the inside. Wouldn't nesc. unlock the other door, but would at least let you out of the one you pull the handle on.

I'm sure the "I'm going to get locked in my car and die" folks will be able to weigh in on this issue

If the door is locked, you have to pull the handle once to unlock and another time to open the door.

I have a 2002 MCS with an August build. I have the speed sensitive wipers (if in frantic mode and slow to under 12mph the wipers revert to intermitant....I also believe it speeds up/slows down the time intervals dependant on speed), the euro parking lights, the follow me home lights, the convenience open, the auto lock at 12mph and something else I can't remember right now.

I was told that (at least in my car build date range) the "pull the brake to unlock" was not a North American option.

I also am curious about any of the aftermarket sunshades.... Any opinions?

As for the speed-sensing wipers, my only complaint is that they don't have a setting that is slow enough. I don't know that this is related only to the speed-sensing option however - it may be that the non-speed-sensing intermittent setting wouldn't be slow enough either. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the wipers even have a manual adjustment for variable speed intermittency - if so, I've somehow manage to miss that.)

This my experience with Chilly so far:

- The doors lock automatically after 12mph.

- You must pull twice to unlock the door or use the central locking system.

- The wipers are speed dependent, but the change is not sufficient IMO. While at a standstill the wipers move every 9 seconds. When moving at about 60mph they move every five seconds. (yes I counted). Maybe they can adjust that for us. I like the feature very much even though it does not work as well as I had hoped.

- There is no manual adjustment for variable speed intemittency. That is a disappointment also.

I too would like to hear about the sun shades. Does anyone have one that did not come from MINI.

Lolo
