i have also myself seen a difference between 89 and 93 octane gasoline in my area (Cleveland)

also, in addition to octane, the stations that sell the gas seem to give different results with the same gas. i can get better gas mileage with 89 from a place like BP, Sunoco or Marathon than 93 from Clarke, Giant Eagle's GetGo or WalMart's gas station, i forget the name.

i dont know if they get the grade B gas versus the best gas that the name brand stations get. i have also noticed that 9 times out of ten, clarke, giant eagle and other off brand gas stations are up to 10 cents cheaper than the name brand stations.

just my .02 cents....

Quotes from USA TODAY. 7/30/2003

"Prejudice and preference aside, engineers, scientists and the federal government say there's little need for premium."

From the same article - for those non-believers.

""I personally use regular even though my owner's manual says you'll get better performance with premium," says Lewis Gibbs, consulting engineer and 45-year veteran at Chevron oil company. He's chairman of Technical Committee 7 on Fuels, part of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Fuels & Lubricants Council. Gibbs knows gas."

I can afford and most of us can afford the $1.20 difference in the full tank when running 89 octane compared to 92/93 octane. Current prices in ATL, GA is $2.06 for 89 Octane and $2.16 for Premium. Having filled with 12 gallons of super you only spent a $1.20 more. Just don't buy the $1.00 bottle of spring water that costs them $.10 cents. And you will be on your way to saving those hard earned dollars.

Yeah, I read that article too...if the Government has anything to do with it.....run!!!!!

I've been in the fuels and lubes business for a while now as well....work for my Father's consulting firm, and he's been in the business for over 35 years, he doesn't necessarily agree with that article...and it's really hard to trust everything you read...you don't always get the whole story when it comes from a source like Chevron whom we deal with on a regular basis, but that's a different animal all together that I can't really get into.

Dave.
