A near miss....

I was driving into the City (NYC) last night; it was my 15th wedding anniversary and my wife and I plus some friends had a reservation at a top restaurant. The traffic reports on the radio were terrible and I was 'proceeding with all haste' when BAM! I was zapped by radar and there was no mistake that I was about to be pulled over.

"License and registration" came the familiar request so I passed over my license along with my brother-in-laws Lieutenants Benevolent Association card. Well the officer was obviously annoyed because I think he was relishing writing me the ticket but since my brother-in-law is a Tour Commander he just gave me back my license and roared off.

We continued to proceed, but with a bit less haste. Oh, and the officer kept my 'get out of jail free' card. I feel so naked without it.

Definitely a near miss. Phew!!

"Lieutenants Benevolent Association card"?

Please explain. I've never heard of this. You have a card from your BIL who's a Tour Commander that automatically gets you out of a ticket?

Many police departments, especially in the east, have "courtesy shields" for immediate family members of guys or gals "on the job". Sort of a "relative of a cop, leave him alone" card.
Many times, a relative of an officer won't be arrested, instead, their police relative will be called to come and take them home.

A near miss....

Or a direct hit- if you consider he took your card!

We have stickers to put on the windows in my area-

State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers

Maybe he wanted to be part of your wedding anniversary celebration day/night?
