When you say service are you talking matainence or waranty work?
If it is for matainence, I just do not get why a lot of people
think they should get a loaner, excuse my ignorance on this.
When I've taken any of my cars in for scheduled matainance they were left for the day and I aranged for a ride home or work.
If it is for a waranty problem and I'm having to leave the car there for more than a day I have had my extended serive contract pick up the cost of a rental. No extened service contract no rental= SOL.
I have never been to any dealership that gave out Loaner cars.
Think about the overhead to due such a thing, insurance and the cost of the cars seem pretty cost prohibative.
Just some thought here.

Why would ANY of the scheduled maintence take more than one day? Its scheduled ahead of time and hopefully with an appointment.
For warranty work, not everybody has the ability or humility to go asking for rides from their friends and family for their rather expensive brand new car. I had an SVT Focus before my MCS and part of owning an SVT included free loaner cars when it was in for service. Hell if Ford can do it on a sub 20k car why can't MINI on a Premium Compact 20k+ car. My GF got a loaner when her Hyundai was in for a long service. Its becoming a standard these days.
Now mind you that I have had no dealings with any MINI dealerships on this.
But when I have taken my 00 2.5RS in for oil changes I do wait for it, most of the time less than a hour.
Other scheduled matainence like the 60k and 90k services I'd rather not wait for, at least 3hrs or more of things to be done.
The dealership I go to also services Toyota, Honda and Hyundai. So waiting not an option.

Loaners are only for Warranty work, i have to drive 25 miles to take my car in for warranty work. Most of the time i don't know how serious the work will be when i go in. So if they say we need to keep the car for 3 days what the hell am i going to do 25 miles from anything?????? I'm not going to start whipping out my cell phone to get a ride, thats just rediculous. This will definitely make a difference in any car i get in the future.
Of course once your out of warranty you better figure out the bus schedule.....
