I was pulled over Monday doing 29mph in a 25mph zone. The officer was polite and asked me for my drivers license, registration, make of car, engine type, where did I get it, how much it costs, how fast it can go, what my gas mileage was, and where the nearest dealer was. He was practicaly crawling in my lap his head was so far in my window.

I was given a warning and no fine for the first time in my life.

29 in a 25? Wow they actually pull people over for that? He probably just wanted an excuse to look at your MINI!

Yeah, I sort of got one of those...the only time as yet I've been pulled over in the MINI. The officer apparently didn't have his radar on, but after following me for nearly a mile (while I kept it on the limit exactly) he pulled me over and lectured me about how "you looked like you were going like a bat-out-of-hell at that last light". Then, after making me late for my meeting he told me to carry on. Talk about abuse of power... If he'd simply followed me another block into the parking lot, I would have let him hang around the car for the rest of the afternoon

I thought I read somewhere about an allowable variation or inaccuracy in speedometers. It could be as much as 6 mph "off". So technically you can't be written up for speeding if you were 4-5 mph over the posted speed limit.
I have heard the rumor that BMW were notorious for adjusting lower. Hence, when 70 mph showed on the speedo you were more likely going only 65 mph.
Interesting to note that when I go through the radar reminders that are set up around here: If my speedo says around 45 the radar will read 40.

Obviously he just wanted to see the car! Next time that happens, a good follow-up question is, "by the way officer, where's the nearest donut shop?" He'll laugh and laugh and laugh!
