Hello all.

My new MCS is lurching during acceleration. It sometimes does it in most gears. It's almost as if the car isn't getting enough air and is chugging to do so.

I've surched the site and have seen no reference to this in other MINI's. It's pretty noticeable, so Iwould think that if it's common or normal I would have found something.

Any information would be appreciated. I'm sure it's going to the doctor real soon and I will miss is greatly.

Thanks,

J.

When I picked up my MINI from the dealer the first day, I felt like I was driving a Mechanical bull, it would lurch back and forth upon acceleration, almost like when you're learning to drive a stick.
Turns out the problem was that the tires were way over-inflated, making the car bounce in a back and forth motion. As soon as I let out some air (to the reccomended pressure) my problem was gone.
I'm not saying this is your car's problem, but you might want to check your tire pressure anyway. This same thing has happened to a few people...

Thanks Calvin. I check that out before I call up the dealer. I've only had my MINI a couple of weeks and have been on vacation for almost two of those two weeks, so the MINI is good and fresh and might need the kind of tweaking, you're talking about.

Best regards,

Jason

Another thing you could be experiencing, is that if you have a MCS with the 3.1 ECU update (had it done on 2002, I think all 2003s come with this), the revs hold for a itsy bit when you depress the clutch. Try to shift like Andretti and the car gets caught in a crossed rev band. Just give an extra half second before shifting and see if that helps anything.
