R50/53 Heyzeus says goodbye...
Heyzeus says goodbye...
...or I took him to the backyard to put him out of his misery. you decide.
3 months before the order of my 2003 DS/B MCS, I have been ravaging and pillaging any and all literature I could about the MINI. I started collecting MINI ads, brochures, even accessories booklets... sad & disturbing, but true.
3 months after ordering, and much late nights endlessly googling for "Mini cooper S review" "2003 mini cooper" "sexy young co-eds, 5 dorrar!" "new mini", I picked up my beloved Heyzeus like a lonely middle class suburanite, anxiously picking up his new russian bride.
30k mi later, heyzeus goes the proverbial communist bloc road. almost total power loss while WOT on the highway (no where near redline). Does this repeatedly in any gear. Supercharger by-pass valve is to blame they say. Problem fixed, no more compulsive vomiting... 3 months later, car dies in idle. restart several times, take it to dealer, it's the throttle valve. fixed, no problems.
During all this, I have had Heyzeus in for so many rattles squeaks clunks squeals, so many times the service manager smiled and nodded when I came in. Dash, doors, windows, headliner, sunroof, and recently at the base of one of the central columns.
I say,"Heyzeus, you've betrayed me twenty x-ty six times too many!", and post it for sale (after all problems were fixed by the dealer of course). Had 42k miles when I traded it in.
I am now the proud new owner of a 2005 G35 Coupe 6MT (Athens Blue).
I sold off the toys I bought for Heyzeus, made some money back, and am trying to get used to ridiculously undriveable RWD (in the snow).
As all 2 (excluding my russian bride, because she despises me) of my friends say, I will probably end up buying an 05 later in life because of my intense love of the MINI. I know in my brainpan that I just got a pooper amongst coopers, but my heart aches everytime I think of the sudden death(s) of the engine, all the trips to the dealerships, and the late nights I stayed up to force my russian bride to work third shift. Really, it's like breaking up with your girlfriend/boyfriend/random hand puppet. Plus, I needed the health benefits.
I'll probably troll around these forums... a lot like the has-been highschool football players that troll around their hometown bar, looking for their now-nasty highschool cheerleader turned miserable secretary.
The Mini was (and always will be) my first (personally owned) car. My first truly loved car. My first truly loved to drive car. And even though I never could fit the russian in the boot, I'll always remember fitting her and her sister with the seats folded down.
The G35 forums are decidedly more... "ricer" turned upper-middle class, aka, cous-cous (fine, its not rice, but you get the point!) than the mini forums. Probably why I'll stick around here until I'm shooed away by the new cheerleaders.
*disclaimer: no, i don't have a russian bride or her sister. no, i don't date hand puppets, and absolutely never would I purchase a coed that only cost 5 dorrar. Seriously, you can't even buy into a poker game with that.

I hope you stick around the MINI forums. You write way too well to be slotted with the buzzy-exhaust-but-no horsepower/ridiculous offset/go cart-wheeled poser crowd.
Stick around the MINIs. Fresh lust will overcome bad memories every time. Is your new hand puppet of the asian persuaion?

I'm sorry to hear you had so many issues with your baby....it totally stinks. I do like the G35 - I hope you will be happy with it. Do stick around here and let us know how things go....maybe you'll be back with a new MINI? Only you can decide what's best for you...
