Oil Pressure

I have 1k miles on my car and whenever I get onto the freeway, my oil pressure light comes on. What's wrong?

First, check the oil level! Make sure it isn't low. If it isn't low, get it to the dealer ASAP! If it is low, add oil as needed.

I think the oil is probably low, and there isn't enough oil in the pan to avoid starving the oil pump at upper rpms.

If you're out of warranty, and your oil is at the proper level; you need to temporarily hook up a simple mechanical oil pressure gauge and then drive the car on the freeway. This will allow you to verify the accuracy of the oil pressure light.

If the oil pressure is truly low and you have enough oil in the engine, you have a really serious problem.

Let us know what you discover.

I certainly hope your warranty isn't up after 1000 miles. b/c that would mean my warranty ran up on my 05mcs 3000 miles ago.
Man things have changed. lol 1000 mile warranty's. haha j/k

Oke one word here. Bring it back to the dealer. Well that was more than one I know. But you should have 49000 miles left on your warranty so let the dealer worry about it. Good Luck

I didn't notice that he only had 1,000 miles until after I posted! I considered editing my post, but since others (who may be out of warranty) read these posts, I thought I'd leave it as is because I consider it to be good advice.

Don't take it back to the dealer if it's low on oil. Just add some. You don't want them taking notes that you drove the car low on oil. That would be considered abuse and they wouldn't cover repairs later. If you fill it up and it consumes more oil. Keep it documented, then take it in (with your documentation) and tell them you have an oil consumption problem.

Best of luck,
Rawhyde

I had checked my oil at around 500 miles and it looked perfect. I have an appointment for Monday at Mini North Scottsdale.

They shouldn't blame it on my pipercross, because the problem was occuring before I had it.

Does anyone know why it only comes on when I drive on the freeway?

So what happened at the dealer?
My interest stems from the fact that my car is in for a similar problem.
Of course my car has 14,000 miles on it.

Its probably just a faulty oil pressure switch located next to the oil filter. Quick fix. Will probably replace it, take a spin & send you on your way, rather than send you home in a Topaz.
