Problem in first getting louder

The noise is definately getting louder and more frequent.

Lets say this is the clutch 12345678.
1 being the clutch is to the floor and 8 being all the way up.

When my foot comes up to about 3 i hear this noise. I can't really describe it with words. It almost sounds like metal and metal but not grinding. Almost something like a door that needs some WD40. But the sound is high in pitch.

It sometimes lasts for a split second or maybe up to 3 seconds depending on how I am driving the car. Lets say I start coming off the clutch and i have to hold at the position for a second it will continue to make the noise. It is quite loud and with my window down you can definately hear it outside the car.

Anyone have a idea what this sound may be?
I know there has been some talk about the air recycle making a noise like this but mine is always off.
No mods, car is stock.

i had some what a similar problem with the clutch and sounded like 2 pieces of rubber rubbing against eachother. i brought to the dealership and they said it was a bearing missing. so instead of them installing the bearing, they installed a new clutch.

I have what you have with my '02 ds/w MCS.....for the last several months.
The MA told me it's just idiosyncratic....something to do with the flywheel and can't be helped. However, when I go in to to have the door handles
replaced due to freezing problems, I will insist that the issue be dealt with even if it means replacing the clutch. I appreciate hearing that someone actually had this done.

Sounds like the throw-out bearing, or one of the springs on the preasure plate is bad.

I had that problem. The dealer fixed it by replacing the clutch assembly.

I'm going to make a appointment to drop off my car Saturday even though service isn't open. Its driving me crazy I hear it all the time now. After driving around today, i'd say maybe 8 out of 10 times in first it makes the noise.

i have this noise. it is definately the clutch. i don't think it is the throwout bearing, as these typically make noise as soon as the clutch is depressed and all the way down to the floor, even in nuetral. with this problem you can push the clutch down all the way and not get any noise. it only occurs in 1st or reverse when letting up the clutch and allowing it to slip. right? and it gets worse the colder it is outside. here is another short thread:
