That is not correct, 2 lights is high 1 light is low. If the seats are off, press and hold the button for a few seconds and it will go directly to low, otherwise it goes to high when you turn the seats on.

Yes, I believe the MINI has to be running for the seats to heat. Even though I'm in L.A., I got the heated seats and I LOVE them!

They're great for long-distance driving. I keep mine on "low," which is just the back portion on, instead of both the seat and the back, and it keeps my spine limber!

The seats don't seem to get very warm unless your butt is in them,so start the car, buckle up,get comfy, and motor, your buns will be warm in no time

For some reason I decided I didn't need heated seats in my Cabrio. Big mistake So I have a plug in pad to keep my buns warm Come summer I won't miss them but sure wish I had them now.

There seems to be some confusion about the lights determing the heat setting. The lights don't correspond to where the heat is coming from, they only tell you the intensity. Two lights is hottest, 1 light is not as hot. It has nothing to do with where the heat is coming from. With one light, you're still getting heat on your butt and your back, only at a lower intensity.

I believe Jack Pitney once referred to the two settings as “Butt Burner” and “Nut Roaster,” perhaps acknowledging some of the lack of control over the settings, which seems to have been noticed in some of these posts… !

heated seats yes yes yes

I use mine on low all the time because it's soooooooo good on my lower back issues. Plus, when I took my 05 in to get a dash rattle addressed, the dealer said my heated seat/mirror switch was "loose and defective," and they replaced it under warranty. I had no idea. jimbo

PS even if I were to get a "stripper" MCS there'd be 3 things i'd get NQA: the H-K, the MFSW, and the cold weather pak--only the essentials.

I think heated seats ARE useless! I know I am the minority, but I live in Florida and see zero use for them. I also don't like being hot at all!!

To each his own!

If you lived in Wisconsin, you'd probably say otherwise

Yeah, that is nice how they get warm fast, then back off.I don't use the high setting much, only when real cold, and I let the car warm-up while I,m cleaning windows and unpluging my new block heater, that heats the coolant so when I start the car my temp. guage is part way to the 1/4 point

No probably about it! This Wisconsinite is also jealous as all heck. I tried to add the heated seats but my car was already on the boat. Tooo late for my sore back! Still, I'm glad Lot15 has em.

The most useful option in my MINI, IMHO. I see no use in DSC, however. (I just HAD to start up that conversation ).

Okay the Florida girl has gotten slammed!!

It is hot, but not in a "fake" heat way. I never turn on the heat, even when it's cold. I am just naturally more warm blooded and see no need for extra warmth. I wouldn't get heated seats no matter what state I was in.

Again, to each his own.

At -45F,you take any heat you can get,"fake" or otherwise. My first car,35 years ago,a 58 VW beetle, had NO heatYa stayed warm by scraping the windows
I motor at -15F,doing 65-70 mph, with my window part way down, but the seat is warm, the windows are clear, and the dog is sticking her nose out the window over my shoulder.
Now that's my idea of motoring
Like you say,to each their own:smile:

I live in Southern California (where it's hot waaay more than it's cold) and I still love them.

However, even if you despise them (as you clearly do) they are definitely worth getting as they really do affect the resale value of the car (maybe not in outright return on your dollar, but someone is much more likely to consider your car just because it has heated seats over a similar one without them). I just completed the heated seats retrofit on my wife's car and so I can tell you first hand that the $270 the factory charges for the seats is a tremendous bargain (as it will cost you 3 to 6 times that much to put them in afterwards). Thus, even if you don't think that you'd ever use them, I strongly recommend that everyone orders them in their MINI if they get the chance.

Just my $0.02...

They have a mind of their own

I LOVE my heated seats and yes they are a must on a Cabrio, makes topless motoring much more do-able.

Has anyone else noticed a varience in their heated seats? Mine used to practially burn me and now...one month later they just don't seem very hot

What's the deal? I will definately let my dealership know next time I am in their neighborhood, but just wondering if any one else has experienced this?

THANKS!

So basically you think I am over-using my heated seats

My husband thinks I am imagining the whole thing, but I SWEAR they are different now!

Our seats were but burners untill we had the leather cushion covers replaced now they don't heat enought to notice. I was told that the heating elements are part of the seat covers. I have never gotten a straight answer about this. I wonder if there was a change made so that the seats don't get so hot.

Cheers,
Jack

In no way was I slamming you. I just thought that if you got into your car at 25 degrees below zero, you might welcome some heat on your back, even "fake" heat. But, then again, maybe not.
