I was driving with my seat heaters on and all of a sudden...It felt like a red hot soldering iron went into my back. Apparently my seat heater broke (one of the coils snapped) and it burned through my leather seat. I took it to Schaffer BMW MINI and they couldn't have been nicer. They said that this was a first for them. They should have the new leather and coil soon. I'm in Germany so it shouldn't take long to get the parts in, I just hope the blue leather matches the rest of the interior. So if you get what looks like a cigarette burn that does not leave a scorch mark on your seat, you might want to take it in for warrenty work. My car rolled off the assembly line on 20 October 2002. Other owners of this line may want to keep their eyes on their seats.

Cheers,
Frank

Ouch!

Can't imagine what a snapped coil in your back might have felt like. I sometimes wonder if I'm cooking the cloth when I have the heaters on high cause it gets THAT hot. Then again, I did step on a HOT soldering iron barefoot last year. You probably felt something inbetween I suspect.
