The MCSa will be the very first car I have ever owned. When it comes time to get another car, I do not want to down grade

Switched from but also added to the stable. Out with a 330i, add the Mini.

I have purchased 10 cars in the last 5 years. Everything from BMW, Audi, Infinite G35, Acura, etc. My most recent car was a 2004.5 MB c230 Kompressor.

I got my Mini last October. This is the most fun I've had. Certainly keeping this one. Truly a driver's car. My only regret was not buying the "S" model.

I rented a Honda S2000 in Vegas last spring. Like their bikes, it liked to rev - really kicking in at 6000 rpm. The ragtop was extremely noisy when up but you gotta love that engine! Still - I picked up my MCSW in December and except for the runflats which I've dealt with, no complaints. It is every bit as much fun to drive as any bike I've owned! Definately a premier drivers machine.

My prioir car was a 2002 Porsche 911 that I sold to pay for business school. Honestly, the MCS has proven more enjoyable for daily driving (fun, quieter, smoother ride, less worry) but I do want to cry sometime when I see pics of my old car.

Oh well, soon I hope to have both

The lexus was the best car i've ever owned. It just didn't have that something special. Maybe fellow mini owners know what i'm talking about. I'm looking forward to a small car again. Some people look at me like i'm a fool for trading in the lexus, but i know i'll be happier and i'll own something special!

I have an 03 IS300 sport cross and the MINI is a whole lot more fun and faster. The Lexus is OK but just transportation with "some" attitude.

Had anyone told me I would think like that pre-MINI, I would have said they were crazy.

So the M3 went bye-bye last fall to be replaced with something I think I'll find more enjoyable... a classic Volvo to be driven on nice weekends to car shows and club gatherings (and the occassional drive just because).
Question for you Jerseygirl,

Do you ever miss the power of your M? (funny to find another girl m3 owner/prior owner on a mini board) anyway...I'm waiting for delivery of my mcsc and currently own a 99 m3 vert (beautiful estoril blue) and as excited as I am about the new mini, I often wonder if I will terribly miss the power of my m? Like last night, doing donuts and just slamming through the gears. Maybe I'm just getting nostalgic, it's hard for me to change. I am really looking forward to it though.

Just wondering what your thoughts were.

2001 BMW 330CI for 2004 MCS. Don't miss it. Love the MINI. I've probably owned 20 cars since I got my license many, many years ago. Only car I ever enjoyed more than the MINI was my 99 Corvette. Unfortunately, I killed it. Well, it died for me. Same difference, except to the insurance company.

I look forward to moving UP to a MINI.

For the past 11 years (and still) I have been in automotive purgatory (actually my Tracker fixed head coupe has been reliable and functional). A long time ago I had some fun cars (including a modified Austin Cooper S and a 289 Cobra). My overall fave, as a balanced car and one that suited my personality, was a 1966 Lancia Fulvia Rally. It had a 1.3 liter V4 about the size of a sewing machine, FWD, 4 speed, very long and light stickshift, excellent throttle and brake feel although they did not seem to affect the car's inertia, very light unassisted steering, split bench in front and full bench in back in ivory vinyl, the svelte exterior was metallic peacock blue, and it felt more French than Italian. Unfortunately, like most Lancias, it turned into swiss cheese. A pity.

I may be late to this thread. For what it's worth when I bought my MCS I had a 1998 M3 I purchased new and loved. After a couple months I sold the M3 and have rarely missed it. I added the usual mod's to my MCS - intake, pully, chip, exhaust, short shift ... and really got over the M3. It was my 5th BMW ( a couple 2002 tii's, 3.0 CS, 735) and I may never go back.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

Ben,

Glad to hear that you're okay with your move. I know I will be, just nervous because I do drive the "ultimate driving machine". When the mini vert came out, I told my husband I had to take a test drive so that I could get it out of my system and I was seriously hoping I would HATE the mini...but, the opposite happened. When I drove it, I totally fell in love with it and was back at the dealer in less than a week putting in my order!

Do you know anyone who would like to buy my M?? just kidding. I do have to sell it though, but not until I have a date for my new baby (bootsie). Funny how you just either totally LOVE or hate these cars!

Thanks for your input Ben,

Alli

I sold my '87 928S4 (5 spd with 56K miles) and replaced it with a '05 MCSC--got many of the options to make it what we wanted. The 928 was very exciting to drive and was the last of a long line of German machines (911's to Z3 to 928). All were wonderful to own and drive, but the miles were hard to put onto cars that you frankly were worried to park----and the expense of maintenance on the P-cars was frightening. This MINI will get driven----my spouse was not too keen on the 928 as the shift pattern was odd and the car was scary fast--and I expect that she/we will pile the miles on when compared to the others. It will sit warmly during the Northern Illinois winters, but the other 8 months will see us driving the car daily. My '04 V70R 6 spd. will just have to understand!!

04 BMW 330Ci coupe to 05 MCS

In December we traded our 16k mile 04 BMW 330Ci coupe with 6 speed, sport/premium packages and 18" wheel option for an 05 Pepper White MCS with the 3 packages, auto dimming mirror and rain-sensor wipers and $10,000 and haven't looked back.

The MINI is just as quick as the BMW 330Ci to 60 mph, has a higher top end, handles better and is much more fun on narrow, twisty roads, and maintains the same composure at 90 mph on the slab. We have driven BMWs and older 911 Porsches since 1986 and had not experienced the MINI until after purchasing this last BMW. The BMW was very nice, but all it really offered over the MINI was more trunk space.

Most people, who know next to nothing about cars, think we made a mistake. They ask if the MINI gets good gas mileage as though that's the only reason anyone would consider a MINI. I don't try to explain but simply answer that MINI gas mileage is good, but that's not what the car is about, and move on at that point, resisting the temptation to advocate the car to those who might upon taking the plunge lobby for a more comfortable ride, more trunk, a quieter exhaust, slower steering, more interior space and a larger body to better crash into SUVs, etc.

On the other hand, if the person asking obviously has some sense of the MINI, is a motorcyclist and/or is driving or has driven something athletic, I readily share MINI goodness.

After all, we carry some responsibility to ensure that the marque remains special.

downgraded maybe

I had a 2001 Lexus RX300 very dependable car but so numerous and boring. Glad to have my 05 MCS. I got out of my lease early to get in the mini spirit.

I have a Fiat 124 Sport Spyder as well

The PininFarina lines on my Fiat are amazing! And when it was maintained and running well, it was really a blast to drive. I can't seem to part with it, but my wife wants it to go.

For $500 original cost, it was (and could be again) a real dream. Not as much power as the Mini (about half), a bit lighter, but a true little roadster. My wife and I just had a daughter. Maybe if I start working on it, it will be done by the time she can drive

Even though the Mini is so nimble and quick, the other cars are so different and unique as well. Before I had the Mini, a friend of mine and I took my wifes 99 Civic SI and an 81 Porche 944 for a spin in the hills. We traded cars half way through. What a blast to quickly compare the two cars.

But since getting the Mini, the only car I don't really ever drive anymore (unless it's a family trip, or we're going to pick up a crew) is our Acura MDX.

For you power and torque addicts, there will be times that you miss the power. But the handling more than makes up for it. But no donuts in the FWD like the RWD

Matt

That put me in mind of my 65 Alfa Giulia Spider Veloce. Pretty flaming red PininFarina (had he already merged his first and last name by then?) body with a slightly busy front. I really COULD do donuts with it in the parking lot. It was such a joy to drive in the city or on a winding road--plenty of body roll, but seemingly equivalent to velocity around a turn (until some sedan passes me on the outside). To quote Dr Obnxs, "a blast to drive" and, I must add, regardless of actual speed.

FX4 vs. MCS

Yup, my other horse is a 2003 Ford F150 XLT Supercrew FX4. It is sitting on 33s right now and soon hopefully getting a 6" suspension lift so I can fit it with some 38s.
I really love both my Ford and my Mini. The truck is back home in Texas and the Mini is for driving in and around Manhattan. I don't think that I could ever pick between the two. I use my truck soooo much at home for hunting trips, fishing, just outdoors stuff. But the MCS is just so much fun to drive! If you guys/gals ever want to venture over to www.fordtruckworld.com I am under the same profile name, 6String, and have a few pics and mods. Here is a pic of my truck when I had it shipped to Jersey last year. Enjoy!

After 3 years in a 2001 Corvette/modded, preceeded by a '98 Camarro/modded, preceeded by a 91 5.0 Mustang--heavily modded, which came after a 911 Porsche--not to mention a 86 VW GTI--I can honestly advise that my 05 MCS is the most fun to drive of any car I have owned! I sometimes miss the "OH, MY GOD-0-60 in under 4.5 seconds" and the exhaust note of real muscle cars, but I tell anyone who will listen--I still get a buzz from all the goings on just to get to 50 mph!! The handling is the best and I use half the Zaino and half the time to keep "BUD" clean and sharp. I have added a Promini CAI and a super Magna Flow exhaust which makes the car come more alive. I still wave to Vettes--as well as MINIs. When someone asks what kind of car it is--I tell them it is a "Preemie SUV". Nick

Yeah, I still wave to Vettes too sometimes. They never wave back. Probably think I'm some kinda Vette wannabe in my red MINI. After all, only Corvettes are supposed to be red.
