Counterfeitmini

I saw an advertisement on TV today for a web site called www.counterfeitmini.com. Has anybody else seen this site. I can't seem to figure out its purpose. Maybe I'm too old or just too "out of it". Can someone please enlighten me?
Thanks,
Joel

Joel,

This is about the 10th thread started on this topic. I just merged it with the existing one. It's another humorous campaign by the creative types at MINIUSA's marketing department.

Hope that helps explain it for you.

This is almost worse than the Maxim MINI threads. If you don't know what the Maxim MINI is LOOK IT UP!!! Please don't start another thread...

Kodak Moment... well, almost

Today I spied another counterfeit MINI. This one was all gussied up like a GMC Sierra 1500 pickup, but it's Electric Blue body and White "camper cap" on the back, sort of gave it away .

Murphy's Law Rant:
Why do I NEVER see anything like this, when I'm carrying my camera???

Anywho, Vigilant I shall remain, for counterfeits, in this market-driven age of greedy profiteers. Who can stand in the way, when there's a dollar to be made, after all?

Toyota Goes Retro

And yet another "counterfeit" MINI, the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Dig on the contrasting roof, and other MINI-ish styling cues! Jimbo (I actually like it!)

Not exactly on-topic, but very closely related...

I went to the Mini Auction site (where you can buy counterfeit MINI's) and put my name on the list to be notified for any new auctions.

I got this back from the CCC:

Dear Good Citizen,

Recently you visited MINI4auction.com and requested to be notified of any upcoming auctions. Unfortunately, we at the Counter Counterfeit Commission have some bad news for you. The auction on MINI4auction.com are almost entirely made up of counterfeit MINI Coopers. This may be hard to believe based on the photos, but it's true. They're fakes.

MINI4auction was trying to send you an email to notify you of an upcoming auction. Luckily, our Tech Ops department was able to intercept it in time. We don't even want to think about what might have happened otherwise.

Rest assured, you're safe now. To learn more about motoring fraud and to protect yourself from counterfeit MINI Coopers, visit counterfeitmini.org

Stay genuine.

Sincerely,

Matt Bonin
Director
Counter Counterfeit Commission

Yeah, I was watching late night cable TV when the counterfitminis commercial ran about a month ago. Interesting idea.

I bet there really are some fake MINIs out there somewhere.

It's really funny. Especially the end when they crash a little car into a wall and it explodes ina fireball! Saw it a couple of times on cable last week when visiting PA.

Merged your thread with the existing thread about the Counterfeit MINI ad campaign... I believe there are as many as 12 different threads now merged together....

Counterfeit MINIs on Comedy Central

I'd been looking into the new MINI since before they were available in the States. Then I shared the Autobahn with them in my Ford Ka in Germany and decided that I wanted to own a MINI, and by 2003 I had pretty much decided on the specs and color I would eventually buy. Up until a couple months ago MINI had yet to put one of their creative and original print ads in a single magazine or News Paper that I subscribe to or pick up at the news stand, I and I had yet to see a single MINI advertisement on TV - That is, until today. Up 'til now I've felt severely snubbed my MINI's marketing arm.

So I'm sitting here in my pajama pants and worn out Superman shirt watching one of my favorite movies, Real Genius. I get up and walk into my kitchen for some grub, and as I walk back into the living room the Counterfeit MINI ad comes on the tube. On Comedy Central!! And they're not even selling the cars, just the video. I just want to congratulate MINI USA marketing on finally hitting their mark, almost eight months after I ordered my car.

Except for 2 billboards in San Diego, I, too was passed over by the MINI marketing machine. And I just saw the Counterfeit Mini commercial on Spike-TV during Invasion Iowa this week. (Gotta love The Shat!)

I work with a designer who has a collection of 3 tiny cardboard MINIs that were a part of their marketing campaign - I think back in 2002. I have not been able to bribe him for them...
yet...

That was the most aggrivating print ad for me, I want those too! My father-in-law's a Lawyer type who reads the New Yorker and he had a little cardboard MINI long before I did. He couldn't care less about MINIs, it's just not fair.

That's right - I do think he said they were in the New Yorker. The New Yorker??? I am in marketing and buy print ad space, but do not get how the New Yorker readership is MINI's demographic. It's not exactly the hipsters reading that. (OK, I am not sure who reads The New Yorker...)

You might want to change the thread title, my thread had very little to do with the Counterfeit campaign specifically, let alone the website. Heck maybe I should have titled my thread somthing to do with MINI's "miss and miss" marketing history for the last five years.

At the NY Auto show last weekend MINI placed a guy in plain clothes out on the street shouting "Dont be fooled!" and he was handing out counterfeit MINI leaflets that unfold into a poster which says "Please post in a public place." Awesome.

How to identify fake MINI Coopers (late April fools)

It has been reported that there has been an eruption of fake Mini Coopers around the
country. Have you checked yours for authenticity? Here are some things to
look for:
http://www.counterfeitmini.com/detect_a_fake.php

BTW, If you want an inexpensive Mini, here is a good one. It's amazing how the
new Mini's are starting to look like an old Gremlin.
