R50/53 Liquid Yellow???
Liquid Yellow???
Has anyone heard that Liquid Yellow is about to be discontinued? I got an email to that effect a little while ago and I am aghast!
Let the discussion begin!

I don't know if this is good or bad. Well for the good part it will make my Yellow Bomber more rare, but it will be bad because people like me who likes outrageous colors will be dissappointed.
If this is true, then it will be sad to see such a wonderful color go.
But all will be well in a few years, all I can hope is to see the color revived.

I'm trying to recall if there's any color that's not available in the UK and available elsewhere, or vice-versa, and I can't, though I know some colors have different names in different places.

If this is in fact true, this will be the second time BMW has discontinued this color that I know of. BMW used to use this color on the earlier BMW 2002 models. My father bought one back in 1972. I don't know what the color was called, but when I went to the dealer here in Germany, one of the salesmen were telling me that the Liquid Yellow is the same color as the 1972 BMW 2002 model yellow.
Well, if it's "Good bye" to liquid yellow... and there is logic to subracting and adding colors over the years... What should be the next, new MINI color?
- We had another red (velvet)... but maybe a truer maroon?
- How about a funkier green?... silk was cool, but short lived...
- Brown???
- A true purple?
- What?

The loss of Liquid Yellow would be a crying shame. I love that color (though I ordered Chili Red for my own S convertible).
If I couldn't have gotten a bright colour, I don't know if I would have bought Alice. What I REALLY want is metallic burnt tangerine. A really BRIGHT orange.
If they lose LY, there's no colour in the range that I would consider really bright.

Sunnie would have been yellow but she got mixed up with some blue & turned out green
It will be a shame if they DC the LY. Some of the best looking Miatas in our Club are the different shades of yellow that they have made the Miata over the years.

And the Liquid Yellow MINIs look so beautiful in the fall foliage on the Dragon, too! When a bunch of us were there in October, the yellows really stood out and looked so glorious!

If that's true, that is very sad news. LY was a very nice color (I considered at some point) but my only "but" with it was that it seemed rather pale and not this vibrant "in your face" yellow of a Corvette or Lotus Elise.
So this leaves Chili Red as the only and truly bright non-metallic color in the range.
Any word on a replacement scheme?
Why MINI axed Indy Blue, Velvet Red, Silk Green, Cosmos Black and now Liquid Yellow, but the controversial and slooooowwww selling Solid Gold still remains?

and isn't LY, at least in US, the rarest current production color? Thought I saw a poll that confirmed this. It's either LY or JB. Jimbo
I dunno about rarest in the US, but in Vegas, almost 1/2 the club is driving LY cars.

I had heard this before but I have mine so it doesn't matter to me.
