Cruise gone Crazy

Not sure if I'm looking for an explanation or just sharing a fluke encounter?

So, this afternoon whilst taking a leisurely drive down a 4 lane hwy, clipping along in 6th gear with the cruise control set at a comfortable 75mph, I came upon some slower traffic ahead. There was a clear opening in the left lane, so I dropped
down to 4th and hit the pedal doing 90. Shifted up to 5th doing 100 then 6th. I let off the gas but the Mini kept pulling.
Before I knew it I was cruising at 125mph. I feathered the pedal thinking that it was stuck between the rubber floor mat - but nothing. The Mini kept accelerating. I started tapping the "-"cruise button on the steering wheel but the car continued to accelerate to near 130mph.
I soon noticed that the green cruise control indicator light on the tac was flashing wildly so I hit/turned off the cruise control. Everything went back to normal and the Mini began to decelerate with the gas pedal now responsive again.

I pulled over at the next exit and ran an OBDII scan with my Foxwell Elite:

:

Now, I won't lie - I've had my Mini up to 132mph once before but in this particular instance was just plain crazy!
Whether it be a Mini or otherwise - Has anyone ever had this happen to them before?
I know nothing about computers in today's "modern cars".

BTW: And YES - I could have just slowed down in pace with the traffic ahead. But really? What's the fun in tat when you drive a Mini?

Sounds like the lesson learned is turn off Cruise Control before you hit it. I'm wondering why Cruise Control didn't kick off when you down shifted, things that make me go, "Hmmmmmmm?"

Motor On!

Yikes, a bit faster ground speed and then; "Mission Control - we have liftoff"! Mine doesn't have cruise but doesn't tapping the brake disengage? Seems should, just as engaging the clutch pedal. Something weird going on there...

Yep. Pressing the brake or clutch should disengage cruise.

Yes - You are all correct.
However; what was really weird to me, was when I applied the clutch and brake, the car did slow down = "disengaging" the cruise control (as it were). But as soon as I lifted my foot off of the clutch pedal - the car continued to accelerate. And I mean really pulling. There was clear traffic ahead so I didn't feel a sense of much danger.
Perplexing as it seemed at the time - I have to admit it was rather thrilling to feel the Mini having so much power even at the top end.
So far the car seems to be running just fine (as usual). However, if it should ever happen again I might feel a little more concerned.
